Review of Exit

Exit (VI) (2011)
9/10
I love it when newer talent cuts their teeth well!

Warning: Spoilers
Exit has something different for everyone to take away. I guess it depends upon your character. For me, it looks like everybody's daily rat race and desire to make sense and a purpose to it all. The Ultimate Truth, as it were. And we all approach this differently, informed by our histories, our personal overestimates of our own prowess, faith in our personal perceptions and reasoning, and finally the great anticipation when we finally hit upon the answer no one else finds. An exit from the maze!

Only to find our perfect analysis to be a mistaken notion, bitter ashes in our mouths of defeat. The final door--is just a door.

No one really knows why we need to leave, but we just do. With millions of doors in the city and millions of rats in the maze, no one has found an exit. Even after all the years. Even the very nature of the idea of an exit is speculation.

Much of the movie was in overcast weather, except at one point where we see the evening sunshine when on of the characters, in weary disillusion, finally decides to simply quit looking and simply live. A Buddhist notion, it seems, when agony eases when desire diminishes.

I was enrapt by Exit, and I have high hopes for the cast, writers, directors, and producers for more of this kind of stuff!
