Shortly after Amy purchases a new car she invites Fry to come with her for a drive on Mercury; after doing just about everything possible to increase fuel consumption they run out on the opposite side of the planet to the only filling station. While waiting for the recovery vehicle they realise how much they have in common and then get intimate on the way home. They are soon in a relationship; sneaking off to be together when ever they can... suddenly Fry feels she is crowding him a decides to break it off; he just agrees to go on one final date and he invites Zoidberg along just to stop Amy trying anything romantic. The less than romantic picnic on Europa ends badly when Zoidberg crashes the car and causes so much damage to Fry that the only way to save him is to graft his head onto Amy's shoulder. This makes Valentine's Day rather awkward as Amy has a new date and Fry really doesn't want to be there if anything happens! While this has been going on Bender has realised that there is money to be made in romance and starts a dating agency.
This Valentine's Day special had lots of great laughs and some fun new characters including Victor the smooth talking car salesman and his robotic boss Malfunctioning Eddie. Highlights include Fry learning just how bad his injuries are on Europa, Hermes chewing himself out for requesting a day off and seeing the 'woman' Zapp ends up dating. It was fun to see Fry involved with Amy and they did make a good couple... which is presumably why they couldn't stay together; a good match provides less opportunity for laughs!
