Shark Pool (2011)
8/10
Uproarious send-up of tacky low-budget horror fare
13 March 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Popular gal Cara Thompson (the extremely fetching Suzanne Quast) throws the party of the year at her house. Alas, things go terribly awry when a vicious predatory shark turns up in the pool. Director/co-writer Tony Yacenda relates the amusingly inane story at a constant zippy pace and ably milks the absurdity of the one-joke goofy premise for loads of big laughs. The idiotic behavior of the moronic characters, the tin-eared crummy dialogue (choice clunky line: "Everyone in the pool -- be careful!"), Darien Shulman's cheesy synthesizer score, and the priceless shots of the shark attacking anyone dumb enough to stay in the pool all add up to one immensely funny short. The lively acting by the game cast is another major asset, with top thespic honors going to Jonathan Lipnicki as the dim-witted Brad and co-writer Dan Perrault as token voice of reason Doug, who's sound warnings to simply stay out of the pool are ignored by everybody else. As an added plus, we also get plenty of hot gals in bikinis. A total riot.
