I saw the trailer on youtube and it reminded me a little of The Jerk or Billy Madison. This movie looked kind of stupid or for teens and I'm in my 30's but I read the review by the independent critic so I tried it.
Here's the thing: I started this movie and right away, I was not too impressed. The main character is a spoiled rich kid (why should I care) and some of the humor was too immature, whatever. But the actor is really good and his "Bad Acting" was hilarious. Even having said that I would give the first half of this movie a 6.
This movie really starts getting good half way through (spoiler alert) when Andrew walks in to the office wearing the tutu and for the rest of the movie is with the girl. She is a great actress and makes this movie a really likable romantic comedy from that point on. The main actor really turns on the likability factor at that point as well and his scene with the doll towards the end blew me away with how good his acting was.
The whole movie I was wondering where the plot was going or how they were going to wrap it up. When the final credits rolled (which are worth watching because of the bloopers) I found myself feeling like I just watched a funny, cute, feel-good type of movie. If you don't like sentimental or sappy you may not like it but they put enough humor in there to cover the sap (mostly). Because I give the second half of the movie a 10 and the first half a 6, I'll give the overall movie an 8.
I showed the trailer to a friend of mine who said it's not her taste but I explained the romantic part and we watched it together. She agreed that the second half of the movie is better (more romantic) but I actually liked the 1st half better than the first time I watched it. I think this movie grows on you and I think it's because of the two main actors. I noticed some good subtle facial expressions in the acting that I didn't catch the first time. Usually movies that improve upon multiple viewings have a chance at becoming cult favs.
