Review of Beautiful Boy

Beautiful Boy (2010)
6/10
Sulking Downer
7 November 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Picked "Beautiful Boy" up recently at the Library after reserving online without (as usual) much of any knowledge to the premise of the movie. It didn't take too long for the movie to "drop the bomb" dramatically speaking. I remember thinking it seemed pretty early in the runtime and unfortunately, the movie is more-or-less a character study in grieving. This isn't to say the performances were poor, rather they were pretty competent. (spoiler) But for almost an hour and half we're left with, sulking and downward dreading feelings, as well as argumentation. This movie is indeed the polar opposite of a "feel-good" movie. The main Characters are forced to stare into their own inadequacies and short-fallings, trying to make sense of an senseless events. Towards the end, there's little to make sense of, only that the couple has been able to grieve together finally. Only for those looking for stern subject-contents.
