Review of Luana

Luana (1968)
3/10
Dull entry in a dull subgenre
22 March 2011
Warning: Spoilers
After watching a few of these Italian late-1960s jungle "adventures", I have come to the conclusion that they must constitute one of the dullest subgenres of the extremely prolific (and often entertaining) Italian film industry during that decade. Their main - and common - problem is that....nothing really happens in them. The "Jungle Queens" do very little, and most of the running time goes to the other characters trekking....and trekking....and trekking through the jungle; since the budget doesn't allow for too many dangerous encounters, occasional stock footage of wild animals will have to do. This "Luana", unlike "Tarzana", is also strictly PG in terms of nudity (there is none visible); an arm-wrestling match where the loser will be stung by a scorpion, and a carnivorous drug-producing plant, are the only two halfway memorable moments of the picture. * out of 4.
