Double Your Pleasure

Thanhouser never did much in the way of the wave of slapstick that became immensely popular with the rise of Mack Sennett, but the studio did turn out a number of highly amusing comedies like HER NEPHEWS FROM LABRADOR and this one. A young man gets a note from his wealthy brother that if his wife gives birth to a boy and he names the child after him, he'll give a gift of $5,000 and make the boy his heir. Imagine his disappointment when it turns out to be twin girls! However, he writes back claiming they are twin boys. Advance twelve years to when uncle finds out they are girls and decides to pay a visit and have a little fun...

Thanhouser also never did much in the way of advanced camera-work, relying on solid composition, lively editing here and, of course, some good performers, including Marion and Madeleine Fairbanks, a charming pair, as the twins. Sidney Bracey, as the disillusioned uncle, gets to give a nice performance and honestly appears to be enjoying himself. This one is well worth your time to see what a lesser known but still excellent studio was doing in this era.
