Most movies of this type take it short and sweet, delighting in subtle movement and plays of light over the colorful imagery being captured. Marie Menken actually speeds things up, providing a literal visual equivalent of "glimpses of the garden" (as opposed to views, revelations, contemplation, etc.). The movie is shot and edited via some expert graphic matches to the accompaniment of bird-song, which ultimately decides the beat for the movie to play along in. It is not too difficult to take this movie as experiencing a garden from a bird's perspective.
