House M.D.: House Training (2007)
Season 3, Episode 20

Nice, but wrong
4 January 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Yes, this is a heartbreaking episode, but medically it is wrong. It is based on the statement that antibiotics can't treat bacterial infection (sepsis) when immune system is destroyed by radiation. This is completely wrong. Antibiotics work on their own even in the test tube - no need for immune system... So, they could have treated the patient with antibiotics and wait for immune system to rebuild (or get a bone marrow transplant), and the patient would not die in 24 hours. As much as it was needed for dramatization, this is very major mistake in the script. The medical complexity of this series suggests that qualified consultants should be in place, but either it is not the case or they've missed this episode completely.
