Spartan 9-12-08
When I think of what to say about this wonderful film I'm compelled to speak of its pace. Its a movie with a strong forward moving momentum in its narrative. A fact that might cause some to say that its difficult to keep up with. I'm rather fond of films that require one to pay attention and don't spoon feed me full of unnecessary exposition. This is certainly the case with Spartan. Also of note is the reliance of unique catch phrases in the dialog that brings a singular quality to the piece. The cinematography is clean and rather beautiful at times. Val Kilmer as the titular metaphorical Spartan gives a reserved performance. His delivery is razor sharp and precise like the dialog he's speaking.
