Rough Sailing For Charley Chase
21 July 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Although many comedians fell by the wayside when talking pictures became the norm, Charley Chase wasn't one of them. Many actors and actresses were embarrassed by their normal voices once sound captured them. Here Chase jokes, mugs, and sings his way home on a transport ship following World War I. The Ranch Boys are on hand to provide singing and comic interludes. The main attraction is Chase smuggling his pet monkey aboard the ship dressed in full dough-boy regalia. Thelma Todd, with a hopelessly phony French accent, is a girl stowaway. Watch Chase carry her aboard ship in a gunnysack! Chase's incessant mugging becomes annoying after the second time. ** of 4 stars.
