Florida Gore: 80's Style
10 July 2008
In a decade where Jason, Freddy & other Hollywood trash reigned supreme, a dead and buried genre, Florida Gore is resurrected, courtesy of a talented, young director named Tim Ritter. Killing Spree is camp at its absolute finest, to break it down for you, this film takes itself about as seriously as Lloyd Kaufman's Terror Firmer. Killing Spree centers on Tom Russo (played by the legendary Asbestos Felt) scruffy, blue collar, airplane repairman and jealous husband--soon to be psychotic. Toms wife in his previous marriage cheated on him, so, naturally, he's a little paranoid. Tom's new wife, Leeza is much more trustworthy, or is she? Tom recently found his hot wife's journal, in it he finds story after story that straight up proves his wife's infidelities, the poor guy snaps, and as the title suggests, Tom embarks on a killing spree, and a rather creative one at that. Tom starts with his best friend, Ben, that's right, she's a sick woman, Leeza even slept with Tom's 70 year old best friend. Until I saw Tom Kill Ben for the first time, I honestly had no idea you could kill someone by throwing a severed head at them. After all this, the electrician gets it, the delivery man gets it, even the lawn man gets it, as you can tell, both Tom & Leeza are a very busy couple. Giving away much more would spoil a truly rare horror experience. A drunken Asbestos Felt, with his over the top acting, and of course, the excessive, comical gore makes this one of the most entertaining horror movies in history. On a random note, the last thing I ever expected were zombies, which proves Killing Spree to be very unpredictable, and that's always a positive in the world of horror. On an even more Random note, gory killings of senior citizens is just something you don't see very often, which makes this movie all the more special. Killing spree will not disappoint, unless you just don't approve of low-budget cinema, in that case, reading this has been a complete waste of time, otherwise, you will not be disappointed. Highly recommended. 9/10
