action packed thrill ride
29 June 2008
This is an action packed western, and probably the all around biggest all star cast of any OK Corral movie, possibly due to some of the actors later becoming mainstays, one of them even a beloved Star Trek character.

All of the Earp movies have large inaccuracies. No one knows why, and it is especially embarrassing for the later ones such as "Tombstone" to be so inaccurate. This one strays no worse than the modern movies, and is closer than Clementine. The gunfight itself is drawn out, and instead of just killing two McClowrys and Billy Clanton, they manage to take out a slew of bad guys.

The action is great Western fare, and super exciting. The scenery is great. Great acting and writing also help. This may be Lancaster's best performance. He usually plays stereotypical cynics, but here he has a deeper and more believable character who struggles with normal day to day existence. Douglas is a very jaded Doc. It is true that most movies like to make him as jaded as possible for public appeal, but Stacy Keach's is probably the most believable character. This is more due to writing than actual acting.

And it is not only great viewing, and exciting, but you also get to see Dr. McCoy (DeForest Kelly) as Morgan Earp, making him one of the few to play both sides of the conflict. (In a Star Trek episode he played one of the Clanton gang. I know it sounds crazy, but that's Star Trek.).

Stands out as the most exciting and action packed of the Earp movies. The modern ones are too dull and plodding. Recommended.
