Very disappointing season opener
5 April 2008
Warning: Spoilers
After the strange cliffhanger from the third season I hoped for some impact on the characters that are involved. I mean discovering that you are a cylon and still acting like everything is normal may seem the wise thing to do. But amongst themselves they should have at least showed more anger or confusion. What I did not understand was the fact that they are still in control. Not unlike Boomer, who once she discovered that she was a cylon had a lot of difficulties adjusting until the Cylon program took over. The return of Starbuck adds a new mystery that is totally unnecessary. What happened to her? Did she get caught by the Cylons and is she released to lure Galactica in a trap? Or did she somehow traveled in time and really found earth! And how come she doesn't know how she found Earth! While this sounds interesting it only gets in the way of the main issues that still have to be solved. And I still don't understand why Gaius Baltar is so important. Him being worshiped by some people doesn't make any sense at all. Maybe his purpose is to be a prophet to the humans. But why should the cylons care? Very puzzling. And since this is the last season I hope that we will get the answers when it's concluded. Compared to previous episodes this season opener seems to miss the mark. There was no tension at all. The dramatic elements that lifted the series to a higher level are nowhere to be found. I sincerely hope that this is just a bad start and will pick up with following episodes.
