Review of Stick It

Stick It (2006)
8/10
I guess I'm in the minority, old, but still enjoyed the movie!

Well, I didn't see this as a 'teeny booper' movie, I am what people might call 'old' but enjoyed this movie very much. It had all the components necessary to make it an enjoyable film; believable situation, interesting characters, a challenge, a little different kind of 'victory,' and a happy ending.

The lead actress, Missy Peregrym, besides being a knock-out, was highly believable as a gymnastic competitor, if she's a complete novice, then she is one hell as an actress. You can't 'act' muscles like that, they were real. I hope we see a lot more of Missy in the future. Whoever wrote the script must have had first hand knowledge about the sport for it did not seem forced or faked in any way.

The 'kalidescope' effect of the practice made it more interesting. I have always found the training for a sport to be of interest. We always see champions, but seeing how they got there is also interesting. We normal people usually have no idea what it takes to get there. Like Amy Irving in "The Competition," it was interesting to see them practicing, what a piano coach might be like, and the price they pay for being champions. I believe the training in "Rocky" is part of what made people so taken with the character.

All in all it was well put together and entertaining.
