A nifty thriller that cheats you at the end
12 January 2008
Warning: Spoilers
While getting high on the beach, a group of friends are convinced to participate in a fake kidnapping plot by spoiled hippie Babel (Brigitte Skay). They are trying to extort $250,000 from her rich industrialist father (Umberto Raho). But when daddy puts his trust in his young new bride Stella (Rosalba Neri) to discreetly handle the entire ransom payout, things fall apart for both sides quickly. This Italian thriller from director Luigi Batzella is a little oddity. It features numerous murders, character twists, and a totally bizarre fight-turns-to-sex scene that has to be seen to be believed.

Of course, that strange bit might be explained by the film's climax where - SPOILER!!! - it is revealed the entire film was a dream had by the stoned boyfriend of Babel. He wakes up on the beach and, when asked if he wants to participate in the plot, says, "Who needs money?" and then splashes around in the water. See? Dreams are important! - END SPOILER - One thing for sure is that I really wanted Babel to really get kidnapped and killed. She is so annoying and even her rampant nudity can't sway my negative opinion of her.
