Love the production as much as the book!

Oh, what a production! I fell in love with the book when I first read it as a school girl. When I chanced upon this DVD in Blockbuster 5 years ago, I was v.curious. I was hooked the very first time and couldn't help but watch the whole 4-1/2 production at one shot! I then started renting it so often that I finally decided that it would be more prudent to just buy it! ;) Since then, most of my family and friends have shared my pleasure of watching it over and over again, and exclaiming over every aspect of the series.

Jennifer Ehle has done a remarkable job of playing Elizabeth. Her face is so expressive and beautifully shows every subtle emotion, even when more than one needs to be portrayed at any given time. Colin firth is the best choice for Darcy! I liked the casting in general, although I was a trifle disappointed with Susannah Harker for Jane. She didn't really look the beauty that Jane was supposed to be! And I agree with the comments of another person here that the character of Mrs. Bennett was a bit overdone.

I recently watched the old version with Oliver Lawrence playing Darcy. It was nothing like the book. In fact it does a great disservice to the book. I couldn't believe that it won any acclaim! The recent version with Kiera Knightley was also so-so.

So all you P&P fans out there, without hesitation get the BBC mini-series. It is definitely worth your time and money.
