Warning: Spoilers
I love movies which are highly absurd, and this is one of them. the silent pointsman (he only utters one word in the whole movie) who has been alone for so long he doesn't know how to utter his longing for the woman, is funny and tragic at the same time. the way he executes the changing of switches is utterly comic and reminds me of Charlie Chaplin at the production line in "Modern Times". some may find this movie boring, I didn't. the cold beauty of the woman adds another surreal touch to the whole scenery. and there is a feeling of impending doom throughout the whole movie, which finally bursts out in the end when the pointsman realizes he has a more active rival in the postman and shoots him
