Donkey Kong Country (1994 Video Game)

A trilogy of enormously fun video games gets its start in this tale of friendship, danger, and stolen fruit.

It all starts when the villainous King K. Rool and his vicious band of Kremling henchmen steal the Kong Family's huge banana hoard. This behavior, of course, is downright evil. So Donkey Kong sets out with his best friend, Diddy Kong, to bring an end to K. Rool's reign of terror and return their bananas to their rightful place (a little cave in the first level, Kongo Jungle).

With the help of animals like Rambi the Rhino, Enguarde the Swordfish, Expresso the Ostrich, and Winky the Frog, Donkey and Diddy travel across all sorts of terrain from Ewok villages to crumbling Roman temples just to fight this evil force. The graphics, though not startlingly good, hold up quite well after thirteen years, and this film still holds this reviewer in fervent interest... just as it has since childhood. "Donkey Kong Country" is a must not just for gamers, but for any fans of genuine, unpretentious action and adventure.
