Review of Wild Side

Wild Side (2004)
10/10
Magnificent Film.

It's been a long time coming but at long last here is the first and so far only film ever to deal with transexuality with any credibility. As a transsexual myself I have found films such as Breakfast on Pluto and Soldier's Girl unpalatable to say the least, why have male actors always been cast in the role and why has there always been sycophantic praise for their acting and mannerisms when in reality they failed quite badly in most cases.

Here we have a transsexual playing a transsexual and despite not being a professional actor her performance is outstanding as are those of the two men in the triangle. The bittersweet portrayal of their lives and their decency while surrounded by everything that is rotten in life touched my heart, we are humans like everyone else capable of and needing of love not exploitation or condemnation.

Anyway it's a terrible shame that Transamerica got the plaudits when real cinema such as this is ignored.

Great, great film that I cannot recommend highly enough.
