Frasier: The Maris Counselor (1998)

I admit that I consider Frasier to be one of the best shows ever to appear on television. I'm glad to know that because it spent 11 years on the air, I was not the only one who felt this way.

That being said, this particular episode contains much of what makes Frasier remarkable. It contains the last straw of Niles and his marriage with Maris, and although his interaction with Dr. Schenkman is rather unbelievable, it is still a bit clever and fairly amusing, mostly because of David Hyde Pierce.

Martin has a supposed date for the first time in a while, yet it ends up being with the particular woman's mother. Martin's explanation of the "date" is one of his best-delivered sequences. The ending of the episode is what makes Frasier a special show. It contains a sly bit of humor as well as a rather somber ending allowing the audience to soak it all up, so to eat.

Among the best episodes, although a bit early in the best Frasier years.
