Review of War of the Dead

War of the Dead (2006 Video)
It's bad. Watch it by all means!
22 October 2006
This is a fascinating film. Don't get me wrong, it is not a good film. "Actors" are bad; Don "The Dragon" Wilson is Laurence Olivier compared to them. Direction, photography and editing are embarrassing. Fight scenes make circus clowns' jokes look like K1. The handgun, the German WW2 rifle and the grenade explosion all sound the same, let's say like a air gun. You can see "wounds" (be it gunshots or bites) are just a ridiculous splash of ketchup. I mean it is so bad, usually I wouldn't give it 3 minutes of my time since it's trash. Still... Not only I watched it, but I enjoyed it. The script is partially pretty good and, given better film crew and more money, the film could have been much better. The jokes are priceless! Dialogues are very good at times. All the women in the film are very beautiful – starting with Camille Djokoto (agent Conda). "War of the Dead" is fascinating because it is very bad, still makes you wanna see what happens next and provides great fun – both from the jokes and the terrible acting and direction. You even get to like the characters, if not from the way the script shaped them, at least from what you know they should have been and also from the clumsiness of the actors. (As for acting, I think Scott Cengija, the little Billy, was the best, while Rosemary Martins, Max's nurse, was really horrible and should not appear on screen again.) Let's just say if you're a film critic or a film snub, you'll hate this movie, won't watch it and think people who had fun at it don't know *beep* about movies. But if you just love plain cinema and zombie flicks, "War of the Dead" might give you 88 minutes of fun in a rainy afternoon.
