I had intended to see Water for the past month but never got around to it. Intrigued by the subject matter, and my lack of knowledge about it, I thought it would be a good learning experience. I not only learned more after seeing the film but witnessed a truly great character study, something I certainly wasn't expecting.
As soon as the lights came up in the theater I still could not get out of my seat. I had no clue that this old Hindu custom existed nor that it continued until today.
I loved all the characters but I must say that Seema Biswas performance really stuck out. Even though I doubt she'll receive an Oscar nomination for it she certainly deserves it. Looking into her eyes in a close up reveals everything she's feeling.
