Day of the Dead a Great Zombie Film?
15 June 2005
Is Romero's Day of the Dead a Great Zombie Film? Well, as of 2005, it's one of my favorites, up there with Dawn of the Dead 78 and Let Sleeping Corpses Lie/Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue. I could list a ton of others, some good, but plenty bad that I've seen, but in the end, Day of the Dead has had the biggest impact on me in terms of zombies, so I wouldn't be afraid to say it ties Dawn of the Dead in terms of enjoyment.

Not only do the zombies look great, but I actually enjoyed the characters and acting in this film, along with the storyline. OK, the storyline could've been set outside above ground, but if you think about it, it's actually smarter they decided to stay underground, where it's "safer", if they only got rid of that zombie corral.

Seriously, if you have any interest in zombies, this is the film to watch if you want to see some of the best zombie make up and gore effects ever put on film, by none other than the masters of zombie films, George A. Romero and Tom Savini, and Greg Nicotero if you want to get technical (Land of the Dead/Day of the Dead).

I'm really looking forward to Land of the Dead, which I hope has the feel of Day of the Dead, but the scope and range of Dawn of the Dead.
