Review of 9 Songs

9 Songs (2004)
See it? What for?

I'd like to think i'm as cool as the next guy. I've never been a prude about sex, uninhibited or with any hang-ups. However, if there is one thing that really gets my goat are people pushing pseudo "boundaries" in any art form. I was tempted to see the film, but cannot justify giving this sort of pretentious trash the attention and cash. All i did was read the reviews, and while i do have my own mind and am not influenced in any way, this is just another example of how "Art" gives art a bad name. Why can't we see a relationship unfold and disintegrate thru other bodily functions just as real such as real-life vomiting thru anxiety? Diarrhoea thru stress. Am i being cynical? The problem is there are no more boundaries. Creativity and originality are what separates artists and wannabees. Because it is very difficult and painstaking to be original and more to the point relevant. The beauty of any art form lies in how it touches an individual and in what way. It can make you angry, laugh, cry etc. To pay good money, swallow the inevitable hype just to get a semi hard on{i'm being generous here}seems pointless. Don't get me wrong. I've seen porn in the past and plenty of it. Its far more honest and humorous. Bottom line. Usually a sex scene in a film is designed to sell/exploit it and its actors. Very few people can actually make a memorable sex scene , where its what you don't see that really excites. Everything is cool now. The porn industry has tried for years to get into mainstream movie-making , so a 60 year old man who should know better jumps on a wagon , wraps it in good rock music and is now "notorious". Sex is incredible. Individual. Fantastic. Intimate. If you have voyeuristic inclinations{and why not}, take my advice and join a sex club or rent a DVD/Video.
