If not for the brilliant imagery and soundtrack, then for the provocative sexuality that has been morphed in the exploitation of vampire films. It will undoubtedly keep you on the edge of your seat, not in a horrific way, but in a very intelligent and thrilling way.
I am glad that this movie limited the amount of bloodshed and the more horrific details of the sadistic behavior of Countess Bathory. Though she was truly a horrible person, worst even than Jack the Ripper, there's no need for crazy torture scenes when there's a great story to be told. Not many people know that she is the cornerstone of vampirism. She is the one that spurred the creation of the legendary blood-sucking creature with big fangs and slick hair. Ironically a man.
