Review of Mago

Mago (2002)
5/10
disappointing low-budget art film, 5/10
15 May 2003
i saw this movie today one year after its public screening in Korea may 2002. i have to say that i am disappointed. this film is very badly made. as a result, i would not recommend other people to see this movie with that said, there are one thing that made this movie special, or should i say over hyped. it features 825 nude actors and actress, which is ground-breaking in Korea or even the world. it is classified as certificate 18, which is the same as the nc-17 in America or category 3 in hongkong.

this is a fantasy film about mago, the mother of the creation of universe . the story is about a look at the modern world that is speeding up towards destruction and recovery of womens sexuality using magos sexually as background at the beginning of the world. pretty boring on the first subject and somewhat interesting on the second you might think? uh, i figured that this is the prominent reason that people go to see this movie, including me. but the movie failed on both parts. i noticed bad make-up, completely lack of dialogue, ( dialogues are eliminated purposely and the message is delivered only by body language.) bad acting and bad editing. and worst of all, it is very hard to understand, even from my point of view. i think western viewers will have more frustration on that. a certain amount of subtlety is good but this movie is way over the top on that which doesn't help attract viewers overseas.

in summary, if you are desperate to see hundreds of nude korean people, go forward and dig this movie. otherwise, don't mind.

5 out of 10.
