Schutzengel gesucht (2001 TV Movie)
10/10
Very nice, touching film for Christmas
24 December 2003
Warning: Spoilers
I just stumbled across this film, when it was broadcasted on German TV as part of the Christmas programme. Although I am not so much a fan of romance films (especially when they're German), I was immediately captivated.

(spoiler)

The main characters are Eddie, a loser with no job, no wife, no money and a left/right-disorder, who wants to be a bus driver, and Anna, who works at a snack bar at the airport. Both of them are lonely, however for different reasons. When they accidentally meet in front of a cinema on Christmas Eve, Eddie wants to know more about her. At first, Anna is very shy and unfriendly, but Eddie manages to bring a smile on her face and some light into her sad, lonely life. He can even dissuade her from committing suicide. But is he really the man that he pretends to be?

(end of spoiler)

While the story sounds a bit clichéd, the conversion is excellent. All characters are believable and lovable (even the bum that lives in front of Anna's house). I especially like how the people portrayed in the film are real losers. You would never see that (to such an extent) in a Hollywood film. Also Bettina Kupfer as Anna is very pretty. I give it a 10 out of 10, because not many films have touched me like this one. The ending scene at the airport made me cry for joy. Exceptional!

Watch this when you feel bad, because it will really cheer you up.
