Review of For Fun

For Fun (1993)
A common problem in many of the third world countries
31 March 2004
The exact literal translation of the title of this movie is: Looking for Fun.

Unlike most Chinese movies which are social criticism if not purely commercial, this movie is just a simply reflection of reality. The problem depicted in this movie is not limited to China itself, and in fact, it is very common in many of the third world countries. As economic developed and world are growing ever closing, the foreign influence caused the younger generation to embrace things such as rock and roll and internet or computer games, while the traditional culture such as Peking Opera depicted here is rapidly diminishing, only remembered by older generations, such as the seniors in this movie.
