The Overlooked Kings of Sketch Comedy
20 July 2002
From what I know, there have been 5 great sketch comedy shows; Monty Python Flying Circus, Saturday Night Live, Mad TV, Second City TV, and The Kids in the Hall. I haven't seen Second City or Flying Circus, so I won't compare them. Saturday Night Live, good, but repetitive. Mad TV, great, but it's new and SNL was great when it was new. Then there's KITH. This show started 5 careers, 3 of which didn't go too far after the show ended, and one of the sucesses does mainly voice work, so his face isn't well known. One of my favorite things about this show: all male cast. that wasnt meant to sound sexist. what i meant was it pushed the "Kids" to new levels trying to potrait women. But this is one thing i'm sure of, there has been no better sketch comedy character than Gavin. I love his explaination on Krazy GlueT. Everytime I see an episode with Gavin, I turn up the volume, and if there's anyone else around, i make them get quiet. I'ts sort of a worship thing. Too bad he wasnt in more episodes, and too bad Bruce McCulloch didnt become more famous And as the grave stone says at the end of the last episode: The Kids in the Hall TV Show
