I saw this on Broadway, and that production somehow manoeuvered the tightrope between three worlds in a way that even Beresford could not duplicate. The acting, of course, is excellent, but the mix comes off just enough off-kilter to rob it of any serious impact, and leaves the viewer wanting to rent Steel Magnolias instead.
