The script actually isn't bad. In fact, it's pretty good. The writers try desperately to make an important social statement that is still fresh (and under hot debate) today. Unfortunately, the message gets completely lost in the TERRIBLE direction and TERRIBLE acting. Someone here mentioned that it might be worth remaking today with better actors; I was going to suggest that very thing. It is a shame that the implementation of this idea was so poor.
Side note: As it was, this film was a perfect candidate for Mystery Science Theatre 3000 to work its genius. And in 1997 it did! Catch the rerun if you can!
