I've read the comments and it seems everybody misses the point. They all talk about Saving Private Ryan, but there is no comparison. SPR was a tunnel vision view of D-Day, The Longest Day is an overview. (Who said SPR was "leftist"... Geeze, I thought I was conservative) A lot of the "wooden" dialog in TLD was actual quotes and situations credited to real people. If you want to have a good idea of D-Day watch TLD for the history and SPR for the drama.
