Back Street (1961)

A classic love story where the other woman is the hero
24 October 2001
Rae Smith an up and coming designer meets Paul Saxon entirely by chance. From which a beautiful romance ensues only to be put out by the revelation that Paul is to be married. Twists of events tear them apart, but another chance meeting brings them together. At that point she becomes the other woman and we find out how miserable Paul is with wife and how she won't let him leave. Paul keeps Rae in a Back Street home where they spend most of their time together out of the public eye. Just as they think it is all going to work, tragedy strikes their love yet again leaving Rae once again, heartbroken.

This is a wonderful movie for the young and old and should be viewed for what it is, a love story. As simple as that. It doesn't get anymore complicated. It is done very well. It is a classic tale of the cruelty of love, but beautifully displays the wonderful parts of it. Also wonderful performances by Hayward, Gavin, and Miles.

I would recommend this movie to anyone in the mood for a love story and a good cry : ).
