The statue of Liberty is one of the most recognizable symbols in the world.
Designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and built by Gustave Eiffel, it was given to the United States by the people of France in 1886, to represent the friendship between the two countries established during the American Revolution.
Since then, it has become an emblem of American hopes and dreams, a gateway sign for both New York City and America.
