August 2024 marks the 65th anniversary of Hawaii's admission as the 50th state of the United States of America on August 21, 1959. It also marks the 126th anniversary of the annexation of Hawaii by the United States as a U.S. territory on August 12, 1898. Plus, National Hawaiian Shirt Day is celebrated in the United States on the third Friday of August each year. In celebration, we offer a retrospective of Hawaiian shirts in films from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
