Poll: Stunted Oscar?

The stunt crew from Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), in the not-so-distant past, brought on a renewed effort to get the AMPAS (AKA the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences) to create an Academy Award category for Best Stunt Coordinator.

Do you agree with them? Should there be an Oscar category celebrating the best stunts and stunt coordination in a given cinematic year?

So? Which camp do you fall in? Tell us here!

Thanks to film critic, Bilge Ebiri, for his thinkpiece that came out for Vulture.com this August, 2019.

    Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

YES. Stunts can be considerably dangerous. Stuntmen and women deserve the proper credit that's officially sanctioned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

YES: But the award should be given out during the earlier The Academy Awards for Scientific and Technical Awards ceremony.

I can't answer this tough question. Wow! Part of me says yes. The other part of me thinks no. Ask me at a later date.

    The Stunt Man (1980)

I like action films as much as any other bloke or blokess but I don't think this is the right way to recognize stuntmen and women. Maybe studios should pay them more for performing their very dangerous job. Studios should improve conditions on movie sets. Maybe producers can increase benefits packages for active stunt people. Studios could take care of stunt actors who can no longer work due to stunt related injuries that happen on set of active productions.

Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen in Pride & Prejudice (2005)

We need far fewer action movies released into the theater! We don't need to encourage directors and studios and stunt teams with this citation for glorified choreographed violence!

No. Stunt coordinators and teams should not be recognized for their mindless onscreen recklessness!
