‘Invoking Yell’ – Welcome Villain Films Acquires Worldwide Rights to Black Metal Found Footage Movie
Patricio Valladares, director of Hidden in the Woods and Nightworld, is back with Invoking Yell, which has just been acquired by Welcome Villain Films (Malum).
The news was first reported by Screen Daily this afternoon. No word yet on when Welcome Villain will be releasing the film here in the States, but we’ll keep you posted.
Valladares tells the site, “This film was always meant to be an ode to the found footage films of the 90’s, but with a black metal twist. I’m a big fan of The Blair Witch Project and many other found footage films from that era, and I am also a metalhead, so the subject matter came easy to me. It is incredibly exciting to be teaming up with the amazing group at Welcome Villain to release this special film to the world. We couldn’t be happier with this partnership.”

How far would you be willing to go to become famous? This is the question a group of three twentysomething women ask themselves when they decide to form a black metal band in Chile in the late 1990s. The band calls themselves Invoking Yell and plans a trip to a remote location in the wilderness to work on their demo tape, hoping to capture electronic voice phenomenon (EVPs) to give their music a unique sound. While alone in the middle of nowhere, what starts out as playful competition among the women becomes something much darker and more dangerous, making Invoking Yell a chilling, intensely unnerving experience.
Written by Barry Keating (Killer Mermaid) and Patricio Valladares (En las Afueras De la Ciudad) and directed by Valladares, Invoking Yell is shot VHS found footage style and has an authentic 1990s feel, from denim jackets to the camera and recording equipment used by the band.

One of Chile's more prolific filmmakers, Patricio Valladares, has wrapped filming his latest, a black metal horror flick called Invoking Yell. And holy shit, two of my friends star in it! Macarena Carrere, who we last saw in Lucio A Rojas' Trauma, stars with Andrea Ozuljevich, who I'll have to confirm this with her, but this looks like her feature film debut. Their co-star, Maria Jesus Marcone, appears to be making her sophomore appearance. That's Marcone in the provided image. Set in 1997 South of Chile, a trio of metalhead twenty something girls venture into the woods to shoot their demo tape for their black metal band, Invoking Yell, while also documenting the eerie and unsettling process of recording psicofonias in the woods for...

A horror and fantasy film festival that brings together both Chilean and international filmmakers, the first-ever Santiago Horror Film Festival will take place in Santiago, Chile starting on October 4th:
"We already know that Chilean films can have international success. But what about the fantasy and horror films made in Chile? This is what the Santiago Horror Film Festival (Shff) seeks to answer, an event that brings together, for the first time, national and foreign directors to show their work and discuss this film genre.
To be held in Santiago, Chile, from 4th to 6th October 2018, Santiago Horror will offer a varied agenda of activities. One of the milestones will be the forum "Women in Genre Films", which will feature the participation of actresses Carolina Arredondo and Blanca Lewin, film director Andrea Ozuljevich and writer Francisca Solar.
