Welcome back to Dead Time. I hope you left a light on for me because this month we’re going inside The Conjuring house to find out the real story of what happened to Carol and Roger Perron when they moved their five daughters into a house in Burrillville, Rhode Island in the early 1970s.
In 2013, director James Wan unleashed the terrifying horror film The Conjuring, which was based on the case files of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren and told the story of a family tormented by a demonic force after moving into their new home. In real life, the Warrens did investigate the activity in the Perron home, but the story goes a bit differently. You may think you know what really happened inside that house based on the horror movie alone, but you would be mistaken. The true story is much, much scarier.

In addition to Easter eggs of classic horror films, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It includes a handful of little references to the previous Conjuring and Annabelle movies. In one such instance, Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga) brings up the Perrons, who send her husband Ed (Patrick Wilson) flowers following his heart attack. If you don't quite remember the Perrons, you're definitely not alone. Ahead, we've put together a refresher to remind you how the Perrons are the very core of the first Conjuring film!
In the first movie, Carolyn (Lili Taylor) and Roger Perron (Ron Livingston) settle into a farmhouse in Harrisville, Ri, in 1971 with their kids and dog. Not long after moving into the estate, creepy occurrences start unfolding in the house, including birds flying into their window and their dog dying. Their daughter Christine also sees a spirit that wants the family dead. Inevitably, the Perrons...

An inhuman spirit, according to 2013’s The Conjuring, is “something that’s never walked the Earth in human form. It’s something demonic.” And The Dark Zone, a new online community that “embraces the vast spectrum of all things paranormal” wants to lock you in a house with it for a whole week. Figuring it may be the only thing scarier than the coronavirus, the network will present a weeklong livestream from the real Conjuring House. The House Live will stream as a free preview on Friday, May 8, with the full broadcast starting at noon Et, on Saturday, May 9 and running 24/7 for an entire week.
“The world is on lockdown and so is the family living in the house that inspired The Conjuring,” reads the official synopsis. “Watch as the Heinzen Family shows you how they live amongst the spirits while toughing out this worldwide pandemic.”

A house that inspired an entire horror movie franchise is now home sweet home to one fearless couple. On June 21, Cory and Jennifer Heinzen purchased a farmhouse in Harrisville, Ri, where the paranormal events re-created in The Conjuring purportedly took place. In an interview with Sun Journal, the couple said it wasn't long until spooky things started happening around the house.
Released in 2013, The Conjuring explores several supernatural occurrences that terrorized Roger and Carolyn Perron, as well as their five daughters, after they moved into the house in question in the early '70s. The family eventually sought help from famed paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, who also investigated the Amityville killings. Needless to say, the Perrons didn't stay in the house for too long.

“The Conjuring” has led to spin-offs and sequels based on the experiences of real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. But what actually “happened” and what was invented for the movies? Here’s a rundown of where real accounts and Hollywood screenwriting meet in “The Conjuring,” the “Annabelle” movies, and ‘The Nun.”
“The Conjuring” is based on a real reported haunting
The first film in the “Conjuring”-verse is mostly an actual, reported event, if you believe in that sort of thing. As demonstrated with photos during the end credits of the movie, the Perron family really did exist, and reported they were being attacked by some kind of entity. The Warrens did, in fact, investigate. Both Lorraine Warren and the Perron family signed off on the movie as well.
The Warrens really do have that museum of creepy things
The Warrens began their research in 1952 and decided to open...
