New Delhi, Jan 18 (Ians) Ace Indian sprinter Dutee Chand has been provisionally suspended after testing positive for a prohibited substance during out-of-competition testing.
As per the reports, the urine sample of the sprinter was collected on December 5, which returned positive for Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators (SARMs).
According to United States Anti-Doping Agency (Usada), SARMs are a class of therapeutic compounds that have similar anabolic properties to anabolic steroids, but with reduced androgenic (producing male characteristics) properties.
SARMs are prohibited both in and out-of-competition for all athletes, from those competing at the highest level of sport to those competing at the recreational level.
SARMs are listed in the category of “Other Anabolic Agents” under section S1.2 of the Wada Prohibited List.

New Delhi, March 9 (Ians) Chess player Koneru Humpy won the BBC India Sportswoman of the Year award for 2020. The award was based on a public vote in which Humpy beat sprinter Dutee Chand, shooter Manu Bhaker, wrestler Vinesh Phogat and hockey captain Rani Rampal.
"Being an indoor game, chess doesn't get as much attention as sports like cricket gets in India. But with this award, I hope the game will draw people's attention," she said after winning the honour on Monday.
"I won over the years because of my willpower and confidence. A female player should never think about quitting her game. Marriage and motherhood are just a part of our life and they should not change the course of our lives," she said.

New Delhi, March 7 (Ians) Double Asian Games silver medallist Dutee Chand is likely to skip the All India University (Aiu) selection trials to pick the team for the World University Games China in August, hinted her coach N. Ramesh on Sunday.
Without being specific, Ramesh told Ians: "Being a defending champion she should get a direct entry in the Aiu squad."
Dutee is the defending champion in the 100m dash of the World University Games, which will be held in Chengdu, China, from August 18-29.
A reason that may be cited, if 24-year-old Dutee eventually skips the trials, starting on Monday at Bhubaneswar's Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (Kiit) campus in Odisha, is that she is preparing for the July-August Tokyo Olympic Games.
Kiit University is Dutee's sponsor. She is training at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.

Patiala, March 5 (Ians) Absence of elite women sprinters robbed the sheen off the most glamorous athletics event at the third leg of the Indian Grand Prix (Igp) Athletics event here on Friday, and it was amplified when Assam's Hima Das ran the 100m dash all alone.
Hima, running her first 100-metre race of the season, clocked 11.67 seconds -- and sent a warning to her rivals -- at Patiala's National Institute of Sports.
Hima, 21, the national record holder in the 400m, has switched to shorter sprints as her persistent back injury has restricted her to compete in the one lap race. In the second Igp held last month at Patiala, she competed in 200m and won the race in 23.31 seconds.

Patiala, Feb 25 (Ians) Assam's ace sprinter Hima Das won the women's 200m race while Odisha's Dutee Chand dominated 100m in the second leg of the Indian Grand Prix meet here on Thursday, even as Delhi's Amoj Jacob recorded personal best time to win the men's 400m.
Hima's winning time of 23.31 seconds in her first race after a long layoff due to back injury could be seen as good performance, but it fell short of Tokyo Olympic qualification time of 22.80 seconds at Patiala's National Institute of Sports here.
Hima, the 21-year-old 2018 world junior 400m champion and national record holder of 50.79 seconds, hasn't done well over the one-lap race since April 2019 due to lower back pain. She has now switched to shorter sprints -- 100m and 200m. She is also one of the key runners in the national women's 4x100m relay team.

Patiala, Feb 18 (Ians) Odisha's international sprinter Dutee Chand warmed up for a challenging season ahead by winning 100m dash in 11.51 seconds in the first Indian Grand Prix here on Thursday.
Although Dutee, whose personal best and national record is 11.24 seconds for 100m dash, missed this year's Olympic Games qualification time of 11.15 seconds, she looks on course to book a ticket to Japan.

New Delhi, Feb 5 (Ians) Double Asian Games silver medallist sprinter Dutee Chand suffered a minor jolt in her quest to polish skills to qualify for the 2021 Olympic Games as an indoor track event in Almaty, Kazakhstan, was cancelled at the eleventh hour this month.
The national record holder in 100m sprinter was aiming for a robust 2021 season with a 60m indoor competition on January 29, but a last minute cancellation due to Covid pandemic made her reschedule her training for domestic competitions starting February 18 in Patiala. The 60m dash is not an Olympic event.
"I couldn't compete in other indoor meets in Europe due to seven days quarantine guideline for athletes from India. Since I don't face tough competition on the home soil, races in Europe would have given a good start to the season," the 25 year old athlete told Ians.

Globally popular television show host Ellen DeGeneres, an advocate for gay rights, has said she is proud of Indian sportswoman Dutee Chand.
Chand, a 100m record holder and winner of two Asian Games silver medals, recently opened up about her homosexuality. She revealed that she is in a same-sex relationship with a girl from her home town.
Praising Chand for embracing her sexuality openly, DeGeneres tweeted: "She's the 100m record holder and the first openly gay sportsperson in India. I guess she knows a thing or two about being first. I'm so proud of her."
For Chand, the Supreme Court verdict in September 2018 that decriminalised same-sex relationships between consenting adults provided the impetus for them to arrive at a decision of spending their lives with each other.
"When the Supreme Court ruling came on Section 377, then we decided that there is no harm in spending our lives with each other.
