Once again, Insomniac’s Escape Psycho Circus took over the Nos Events Center in San Bernardino this past weekend for yet another thrilling two-day event highlighting some of the best electronic music acts from across the world with tons of spooky shenanigans, just in time for the Halloween season. For 2019, Escape not only revamped its stages, but also several key areas of the festival, and these improvements were very welcome, making it the biggest and best year in the long-running festival’s impressive history.
More than 65 artists played on Escape’s four stages, including the likes of Deadmau5, Dillon Francis, Rl Grime, Dombresky, TestPilot, Eric Prydz, Excision, ATLiens, Valentino Khan, San Holo, Nicole Moudaber (who performed a B3B set with both Dubfire and Paco Asuna), Alesso, i_o, Bear Grillz, Chris Liebing B2B with Charlotte De Witte, Timmy Trumpet, Headhunterz, and so many more.

Insomniac announced the lineup for the eighth annual Beyond Wonderland SoCal festival Tuesday (Jan. 30), and the 60 electronic artists set to perform go beyond the Vegas big room heavyweights. Party starter DJ Mustard, L.A. native Valentino Khan, UK import Sinden, and Jstjr (the music man from Nashua, New Hampshire who Diplo discovered online) all make Pasquale Rotella’s bill at the Alice in Wonderland themed festival taking place at the Nos Events Center over St. Patrick’s Day weekend. Diplo typically earns big money for his DJ sets, but Wednesday night he helped raise cash at a mini festival ... with Rosario Dawson and Eric Andre watching. The Mad Decent label head wasn't even on the flyer for the 2nd annual 'La Gives Back' concert, but surprised the 2,300 fans who packed Union nightclub. Other DJs like Ookay, Valentino Khan, and Ghastly pumped up the crowd from the venue's 5 stages. We're told Rosario and Eric were in the crowd.

Ultra Music Festival once again took over Miami’s Bayfront Park last weekend, delivering a solid three days of non-stop music curated by a host of world renowned DJs and performers. Sporting a lineup with a little bit of something for everybody, Ultra 2017 was definitely another memorable entry for the long running festival brand.
The main stage was graced by all the usual superstar DJs, with sets from Armin van Buuren, Martin Garrix, Zedd, Major Lazer, DJ Snake, Tiësto, Steve Aoki, Afrojack, and Axwell /\ Ingrosso, to name a handful.
The production on the main stage was impressive to say the least, with a dazzling array of Led visuals, water features and pyrotechnics so lit I had to check and make sure my eyebrows were still in tact at one point. The custom stage design Ultra uses on the mainstage is the festival’s calling card by now, but it’s...

Despite some rocky happenings at Hard Summer, including the fatalities of three ticket holders and reports of gross negligence on the part of the organizers, the 2016 edition to the major festival has been regarded as one of the more notable stateside dance music events of the year. Now, Hard Summer is once again grabbing our attention with the release of the official recap video for its latest shindig.
Set to a raucous soundtrack of Boys Noize’s “Overthrow” and Valentino Khan’s “Catching Plays” with Wax Motif, the Hard Summer 2016 recap video is an indulgent memento to the two days of music and wild antics that went down at the Auto Club Speedway in Souther California earlier in the summer.

During his set at New York’s Electric Zoo festival over the weekend, Etc!Etc! unleashed a previously unheard Getter remix for the massive crowds. The rowdy dubstep number is a remix of Skrillex and Valentino Khan’s “Slam Dunk,” which was released earlier in the year after months of anticipation, and features all the signifiers of a classic bass heavy Getter workout. An audio rip from the live set has surfaced on SoundCloud, giving us a taste of the unreleased track.
The “Slam Dunk” remix opens with a drawn out build up, with Etc!Etc! taking to the mic to signal the drop as metallic bass synths fill the speakers. The rework features the kind of spastic, robotic rhythms we’ve come to expect from Getter’s dubstep work, as punchy drums pound out a head nodding beat beneath.

Despite finding its place as a staple in Skrillex‘s live sets over the last year, as well as airing on Oswla radio, the Valentino Khan assisted collab “Slam Dunk” seemed it would remain under wraps indefinitely. However, the two producers have finally released their joint single with Kstylis today, revealing a blistering dance floor anthem.
“Slam Dunk” is a by the books Trap banger that hits all the expected marks without traversing any new ground, but that won’t matter to the dance crowds. The new single opens with gradually building percussion and rising atmosphere, as some over-auto-tuned vocals hype the track up. Moving into the drops, our ears are treated to pounding 808 hits, spastic siren sounds and Skrillex’s trademark robotic bass growls.
Valentino Khan and Skrillex score a serviceable Trap hit with “Slam Dunk,” and fans should be excited to finally see an official release for their effort.

Electric Zoo is one of the biggest East Coast electronic music festivals of the year, and the 2016 lineup is already filled with major headliners like The Chainsmokers, Bassnectar and Porter Robinson. I suppose there hasn’t been a lot to dissuade Skrillex from thinking that he can make his more subpar tracks successful through hype alone. The superstar DJ/producer talked up his new Valentino Khan collaboration so much before its Owsla Radio premiere that even after it finally cued up, it fell laughably short of everything he said about it.
The supposed “festival heater” goes by the title “Slam Dunk,” and it starts off with the most generic autotuned vocal sample imaginable before dropping into an interchangeable jungle terror drop. I can respect Skrillex putting out a jungle terror track as a gesture of solidarity towards his signee, Wiwek, but he hasn’t contributed anything to the genre that keeps me from wanting to see it die already.
Sorry guys, I don’t see “Slam Dunk” being the new “Jump Man” of the summer. We all know Skrillex and Valentino Khan are capable of better,...

Since the turn of the year, Wiwek has come out swinging. The “jungle terror” producer collaborated with none other than Valentino Khan on a track a few weeks ago, and he’s already returned with another joint effort alongside UK grime duo Audio Bullys titled “Rebels.”
Featuring much of the visceral synth stabs and rumbling bass that have come to be associated with Wiwek’s signature sound, “Rebels” is also rife with the sort of wonk that has become a staple of UK grime. The wind-up music box-like melody is accompanied by aggressive verses which in no small part contribute to its primal ambience – although the lyrics themselves admittedly leave a bit to be desired.
Now that Wiwek has taken to calling his particular brand of electronic music jungle terror, it only makes sense that he would start accumulating a more dedicated fan base in 2016.

Apparently we’re not so far into 2015 that we can’t enjoy a good recap mix. Dzeko and Torres may be a few weeks late on their “2015 in 10 Minutes” mini-mix, but what they’ve finally delivered stands out as such a seamless collection of the year’s hottest tracks that it’s hard to bash them for their tardiness.
Featuring songs from the likes of Galantis, Valentino Khan and Jack Ü, the mix also showcases the duo’s editing chops as components of each track are artfully arranged to overlap into a whole that’s greater than the sum of its parts. It ends with the Dzeko and Torres’ remake of Gigi D’Agostino’s ’90s classic “L’amour Toujours,” which is fitting, as the track easily made for their most memorable release of the previous year.

It’s reassuring that even after spending a large chunk of 2015 making radio-ready pop music with the likes of Justin Bieber, Skrillex can still throw down a set of bone-rattling bass music when the situation calls for it.
