Verstappen took the chequered flag ahead of his teammate Sergio Perez for another 1-2 finish for Red Bull this season as the team romped to its 15th successive F1 race.
Slotted behind the pole sitting Sainz at the start, Verstappen hounded his rival as the opening stint wore on, eventually forcing the Ferrari driver into a mistake at the first chicane on Lap 15 and then sweeping past around the outside of the Curva Grande.

The actor’s investment firm, Maximum Effort Investments — whose other backers include actors Rob McElhenney and Michael B. Jordan — is teaming up with private equity firm RedBird Capital Partners and Otro Capital to buy a 24 percent stake in the Alpine Formula 1 Race Team. The partners are paying the team’s owner, Renault Group, about 200 million euros ($218 million) for the stake, valuing the team at roughly $900 million.
The deal continues a trend of soaring valuations for sports teams and rights, whether mainstream or more niche, as legacy media companies and tech giants alike vie for the value of eyeballs-attracting live events.

Monaco, May 29 (Ians) Dutch driver Max Verstappen kept Red Bull’s 2023 winning record intact by finishing ahead of Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin and Esteban Ocon of Alpine in a chaotic finish caused by rain shower in the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday.
Defending Drivers’ champion Verstappen made a clean getaway when the race began to maintain his pole position advantage over Alonso into the first corner on the street circuit.
But as the race developed and the planned one-and-only stops approached, a rain shower hit the track to turn the encounter on its head, causing a flurry of off-track excursions, brushes with the barriers and pit lane activity.
Alonso pitted while only a portion of the track was damp and initially took on mediums, but intensifying rainfall meant he was forced back in for intermediates, which the rest of the field clambered for as well.

Baku (Azerbaijan), April 29 (Ians) Red Bull Racing driver Sergio Perez claimed the first Sprint race victory of the season at the Baku City Circuit on Saturday, beating Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen to the chequered flag for the maximum eight points on offer in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2023.
With F1’s Sprint format being revised for 2023, a new ‘Shootout’ qualifying session set the grid for the 17-lap dash, which took place in pleasant weather conditions and featured action from start to finish.
One driver who did not take part was F1 rookie Logan Sargeant, who crashed out of the Shootout and was withdrawn from the 100-kilometre Sprint due to the significant damage his Williams car sustained in the incident.
Meanwhile, the grid missed another driver after Alpine made suspension changes on Esteban Ocon’s car under parc ferme conditions, with the team enduring a particularly challenging weekend on the shores of the Caspian Sea.

Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), March 20 (Ians) Red Bull’s Sergio Perez took victory in Sunday’s Formula 1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, as teammate Max Verstappen salvaged second place after starting 15th.
Starting from pole position, Perez lost out to Fernando Alonso at the first corner, but regained the lead on Lap 4 and was never headed as he took his fifth career win and his first since last season’s Monaco Grand Prix, a Xinhua report said.
Verstappen had started the race well down the order after a driveshaft issue had ruined his qualifying session, but a Safety Car period on Lap 18 helped him vault up the order, and the Dutchman was up to second place behind Perez by Lap 25.
Verstappen complained about problems with his driveshaft late in the race, and though the Dutchman managed to bring the car home and set the race’s fastest lap, he never came within four seconds of Perez.

Starting from the pole position, Verstappen controlled the race from the front and was never threatened as he took a typically dominant win and extended his record for most Grand Prix wins in a single season.
“It was a good race. It was all about tyre management. I think we looked after the Mediums quite well and then on the Hard tyres managing until the end,” said Verstappen, who won last year’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in contentious circumstances.
“Incredible to win again here. A 15th win of the season is unbelievable. It’s been really enjoyable to work with the whole team and to be able to achieve something like this.

Abu Dhabi, Nov 18 (Ians) Red Bull driver Max Verstappen outpaced the Mercedes’ George Russell and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in the second practice at the Yas Marina Circuit here on Friday.
One of eight drivers to sit out first practice for various ‘rookie’ runs, Verstappen quickly got up to speed in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to produce a benchmark time of 1m 25.146s on the soft compound tyre.
Russell finished three-tenths back after encountering traffic in the final sector of his push lap on the red-marked rubber.
Leclerc was another tenth adrift in third, followed closely by first-practice pace-setter Lewis Hamilton, Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz.
Alongside Verstappen and Sainz, there were returns to the cockpit for Lando Norris (McLaren), Lance Stroll (Aston Martin), Nicholas Latifi (Williams), Fernando Alonso (Alpine), Mick Schumacher (Haas) and Zhou Guanyu (Alfa Romeo).

Mexico City, Oct 29 (Ians) George Russell put Mercedes at the top of the timesheets during second practice as Scuderia Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc crashed out in the Mexico City Grand Prix here on Friday.
But it was Russell who led the way with an early lap time of 1m 19.970s on 2022-spec soft tyres, given that the regular drivers who sat out FP1 were permitted to run their own programme for the first half of the session to help them make up for lost time (Russell having handed his car to Nyck de Vries).
Not long after Russell’s pace-setting effort, Leclerc lost control of his Ferrari at the entry to the high-speed Turn 7 and dramatically slid backwards into the barriers on the outside of Turn 8, inflicting significant damage on the car’s rear end and bringing out the red flags.

Austin (Texas), Oct 24 (Ians) Alpine Renault’s Fernando Alonso has dropped from seventh to 15th in the classification for the 2022 US Grand Prix Formula 1 race, following a protest against his car by rivals Haas.
The stalwart was involved in a dramatic accident with Lance Stroll on the Circuit of The Americas’ back straight, with the Spaniard getting airborne after making contact with the rear of Stroll’s Aston Martin before miraculously continuing on.
All was not well with Alonso’s right-hand mirror, however, which shook violently before detaching itself, as the two-time champion charged through the field to take P7 at the flag. However, a protest on Sunday night by Haas against both Alonso’s car and that of Red Bull’s Sergio Perez — which suffered front wing endplate damage early on in the race — was deemed admissible by the stewards, according to formula1.com.

Suzuka (Japan), Oct 9 (Ians) Dutch Formula One driver Max Verstappen claimed victory for Red Bull in the Japanese Grand Prix, and took the 2022 world title, after a dramatic late penalty for Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc put the championship beyond doubt here on Sunday.

But the Ferrari driver was penalised for cutting the chicane on the final lap as he defended from the other Red Bull of Sergio Perez, according to formula1.com.

Suzuka (Japan), Oct 8 (Ians) Formula One team AlphaTauri have announced Dutch driver Nyck de Vries will join the team from 2023, following the news that their current driver Pierre Gasly will be moving to Alpine to partner Esteban Ocon next season.
The 27-year-old De Vries has enjoyed Free Practice 1 (FP1) outings for Mercedes, Aston Martin and Williams in 2022, giving him plenty of mileage in the new generation of Formula 1 machinery, according to a report on formula1.com.
But with an unwell Thai-British driver Alex Albon ruled out of the Italian Grand Prix in September, De Vries was catapulted in at Williams, impressing everyone with a mature drive to P9 on his maiden outing.

In the end, it was Russell who won the contest between the pair, setting a time of 1m 41.935s that bettered Hamilton’s attempt by 0.235s.

Monza (Italy), Sep 11 (Ians) Red Bull driver Max Verstappen, who were demoted five places because of grid penalties, fought back to win his first Italian Grand Prix on Sunday as the race ended behind the safety car.
Pole-sitter Charles Leclerc finished runner-up as Red Bull denied Ferrari a home victory at Monza while Mercedes driver George Russell, who started the race third, finished third.
“We had a great race. We had a really good race car and we were controlling the gap and then the Safety Car came out. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a restart,” Verstappen said after the race.
While Verstappen was elated with his win, Leclerc was disappointed after losing a chance to win Ferrari’s home Grand Prix.
“The end was frustrating. I wish we could have ended up racing. It’s a shame. I gave it all. I wish I could have won in front of the amazing Tifosi,...

Leclerc’s time of 1m 20.161s put him on pole by 0.145s over Red Bull’s Verstappen, while Sainz was 0.268s off his teammate in P3. Zandvoort (the Netherlands), Sep 4 (Ians) Red Bull driver and defending champion Max Verstappen won the 2022 Dutch Grand Prix dramatically, quelling a strong late showing by the Mercedes’ George Russell and Charles Leclerc of Ferrari on Sunday.
With the virtual Safety Car in force, Verstappen took a second pit stop on lap 48 with Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes in the second position and Russell third. However, Hamilton’s hopes were dashed as the Safety Car was deployed on lap 55.
The seven-time champion stayed out on mediums to inherit the lead while Verstappen came in for soft tyres, followed by Russell and Leclerc, for the restart on Lap 61. In that restart, Verstappen swept past the Mercedes for the lead, with Russell and Leclerc following suit to pry Hamilton away from the podium.

Zandvoort (Netherlands), Sep 3 (Ians) Reigning World Drivers’ Champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull took pole position for the 2022 Dutch Grand Prix, with Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc missing out by 0.021s in a thrilling contest at the Zandvoort circuit.
Verstappen logged a lap of 1m 10.342s in Q3 just before teammate Sergio Perez, fifth, spun at Turn 13 to bring out a yellow flag and prevent anyone else from beating the Dutchman’s time.
“Unbelievable. Today we had a quick race car again. A qualifying lap around here is insane,” Verstappen said after the qualifying session.
Leclerc ended up 0.021s off the home favourite in P2, while Q2 leader Carlos Sainz qualified P3 – under a tenth off pole.
Former Champion Lewis Hamilton qualified on the second row in P4, the Mercedes driver unable to improve late in Q3, while teammate George Russell settled for sixth behind Perez.

Berlin, Aug 31 (Ians) Alpine driver Esteban Ocon has said he would like to have Mick Schumacher as a team-mate in the next Formula One season.
Schumacher’s future at Haas is unclear and Alpine could have a vacancy as Fernando Alonso is moving on to Aston Martin, reports Dpa. Alpine said that Oscar Piastri would take Alonso’s place but the Australian said he will not drive for them amid McLaren speculation, with the case now being decided by the F1 contract review board.
“I told the team leadership I would preferably like to drive with Mick Schumacher. We are friends, I rate him very highly,” Ocon said ahead of the weekend’s Dutch Grand Prix.
“As far as I know he hasn’t signed anything for 2023. So I told my people: let us get Mick.”

Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium), Aug 27 (Ians) Max Verstappen was in a league of his own in second practice for the Belgian Formula One Grand Prix on Friday but like his main rival Charles Leclerc will start the race from the back of the grid.
Red Bull driver Verstappen and Ferrari’s Leclerc are among six drivers who have had changes of their power unit components beyond the legal season limit — seemingly choosing the Belgian race because overtaking is easier there than at other grands prix, reports Dpa. The Sunday grid will be fully determined after Saturday’s qualifying, with McLaren’s Lando Norris, Alpine’s Esteban Ocon, Haas driver Mick Schumacher and Valtteri Bottas of Alfa Romeo the other four to move to the back.
That could open the door for the other Red Bull and Ferrari drivers Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz, respectively, to battle for victory in the first race after a four-week summer break.

Sakhir, (Bahrain), March 28 (Ians) Max Verstappen of Red Bull took a brilliant pole position for Sunday's season-opening Formula One Bahrain Grand Prix by beating reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton by around four tenths of a second.
Verstappen clocked 1 minute 28.997 seconds in Saturday's qualifying on the 5.412-kilometre International Circuit in Sakhir as temperatures began to cool in the Bahrain evening, Dpa news reports.
It was Verstappen's fourth career pole position and was delivered on his final flying lap where he put together his fastest times in all three sectors of the track.
Verstappen topped all three practice sessions but the nature of his pole is the biggest indication yet he can challenge Hamilton and Red Bull could threaten the dominance of seven-time reigning champion Mercedes throughout the marathon 23-race season to come.

Abu Dhabi, Dec 13 (Ians) Max Verstappen cruised to victory in the season ending Abu Dhabi Formula 1 Grand Prix at the Yas Marina Circuit on Sunday as the returning world champion Lewis Hamilton finished third. Hamilton's Mercedes team mate Valtteri Bottas finished second.
Bottas was more than 15 seconds behind Verstappen as the Mercedes drivers had no answer to the pace of the the Dutch's Red Bull throughout the weekend. Sakhir (Bahrain), Dec 7 (Ians) Sergio Perez took a remarkable debut Formula One win in the Sakhir Grand Prix in Bahrain after Mercedes fumbled what should have been a first victory for George Russell.
Standing in for Lewis Hamilton after the world champion tested positive for Covid-19, Russell on Sunday took the lead from teammate Valtteri Bottas at the start and seemed set for a fairy-tale debut triumph, reports Xinhua news agency.
But things started to unravel for Mercedes when the safety car was deployed on lap 61 after debutant Jack Aitken -- himself replacing Russell at Williams -- lost his front wing after a spin.
With a sizeable gap to the rest of the field, Mercedes called both drivers in for a precautionary pit stop, but put a wrong mix of tyres on Russell's car before realising their mistake halfway through Bottas' stop.
