In one of its biggest plays to date, Rainmaker Content, the London-based distributor founded last June by former Kew Media Distribution execs, has acquired international rights to “The Bone Season,” an eight-hour epic thriller series based on Samantha Shannon’s international bestsellers.
Designed as a series franchise – Shannon’s book series now runs to four novels with another three planned – “The Bone Season” is set up at London’s Little Hat Productions.
Well-known for her work as head of production at Bad Penny Prods., Little Hat founder Harriet Hammond will produce the adaptation. “The Bone Season” is executive produced by Hammond and Victor Glynn at Gcb Films.
A potentially high-end production – folding a Gothic fantasy world into a dystopian alternative London, which mixes Victorian and futuristic detail – “The Bone Season’s” cast and crew will begin to be announced in the coming weeks with agencies currently attaching talent, Rainmaker and...

Here were the 20 books that meant the most to our Den of Geek contributors in 2019.
To cover and consume popular culture in this era of #PeakContent is to constantly be making choices. This means it is more important now than ever to reflect on the ways in which "best of" lists, just like pop culture itself, are subjective—shaped by a group of people with specific identities, interests, and storytelling sensibilities.
Therefore, in presenting our list of the Best Books of 2019 to you, we note that these stories are not just what may have felt Important in a year when we are more desperate than ever to understand the seemingly increasingly destructive forces at work in the world, but also what meant the most to us personally.
Here are 20 books, in no particular order,...

Wondering what you’ll watch when The Hunger Games franchise is over? We’ve got some ideas…
As well as sequels, remakes, and comic book adaptations, there’s one kind of movie you can feel fairly sure is going to keep popping up at a cinema near you: young adult adaptations. Stories about teenagers are still doing big business in the book trade, and thanks to Harry Potter, Twilight, and The Hunger Games, Hollywood is convinced of the genre’s appeal, too.
A couple of new franchises have already been kicked off – there’s still at least another Divergent sequel on the way, and another Maze Runner sequel – but what’s more interesting is the list of Ya novels that have been optioned and may soon be taking over the box office. Now, not all of the adaptations on this list will see the light of day,...

Performance capture pioneer Andy Serkis has revealed he plans to shoot his directorial debut, an adaptation of George Orwell’s Animal Farm, in the second half of 2014.
“We’ve started pre-vis which in the virtual world in many instances means you’ve already started shooting the film,” Serkis, told Screendaily on the fringes of the Cinematic Innovation Summit (Cis) in Dubai on Thursday. “Principal photography will take place in the middle to third quarter of next year.”
Serkis’ Animal Farm was first announced in October 2012, as the inaugural production of Imaginarium, the new performance capture studio co-founded by Serkis with producer Jonathan Cavendish, but there has been little news about the project since.
A speaker at the summit, Serkis told delegates that he had directed pre-vis work via Skype from his trailer on the set of Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, in which he will reprise his role as rebel ape leader Caesar from Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes...
