YouTube star Grace Helbig revealed in an emotional video that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
The 37-year-old personality shared in the eight-minute video, posted on her YouTube and Instagram pages, that she received the diagnosis — triple-positive breast cancer — “about a month ago.” She called the news “shocking” and “surreal.”
“It doesn’t sound real, but it’s real,” said Helbig, who has more than 2.6 million subscribers to her YouTube channel. “I’ve had a decent amount of time to process and start the process, so I’m finally ready to share with you.”
She went on to say her breast cancer is “super treatable” and “highly beatable,” citing her doctors and experts familiar with the diagnosis. “We’re going for cure, not remission here, which is exciting, encouraging, helpful, good,” Helbig continued, adding that her doctors believe it is stage 2A but cautioned they “are not entirely sure just yet.

Megan Batoon is offering some advice to her fans. Batoon, whose YouTube channel has more than 800,000 subscribers, is the host of Just A Tip, a new podcast.
In Just A Tip, Batoon will respond to letters from her listeners, dishing out her takes on whatever issues her fans share with her. She'll get some help from some guests along the way. In her first Just A Tip episode, titled 'How To Talk To Women,' she dispenses some wisdom alongside Elliott Morgan of SourceFed fame.

SourceFed is back...sort of. Four the news/commentary/comedy channel's original hosts -- Elliott Morgan, Joe Bereta, Lee Newton, and Steve Zaragoza -- have reunited to launch a new venture called The Valleyfolk, which looks as if it will be a spiritual successor to SourceFed.
Beginning in 2012, Morgan, Bereta, Newton, and Zaragoza (along with Meg Turney and Trisha Hershberger) began hosting cheeky, bite-sized videos, which often broke down strange or outlandish stories from the news. Thanks in part to their shared charisma and chemistry, SourceFed flourished and became one of YouTube's best channels. Such success proved fleeting. Morgan and Bereta left the channel in 2014 and Newton said goodbye in 2015, among other departures. The resulting high rate of turnover contributed to SourceFed's cancelation in March 2017.
Less than a year after that door closed, another has opened. Morgan, Bereta, Newton, and Zaragoza are starting anew in hopes of providing fans...

Last week, Philip DeFranco announced his decision to take a week off from his YouTube channel in order to give himself the time to sort out some “personal and business stuff” in his life. Now, we know about some of the “business stuff” he spoke of. Tubefilter has learned that Group Nine Media, the Discovery-backed venture that holds control of several major media brands, will shut down DeFranco’s SourceFed network while also rebranding Seeker Daily as the YouTube hub of NowThis News.
The word out of SourceFed HQ is that layoffs were announced last week, with the SourceFed, SourceFedNERD, and People Be Like channels all getting the axe. In order to commemorate what might be the last SourceFed video ever, the offbeat news channel brought in several of its former hosts, including Elliott Morgan and Trisha Hershberger, for a very special episode of its Table Talk series.

Since he introduced himself to the online video world as one of the original hosts of SourceFed, Elliott Morgan has worn a lot of different hats. We’ve followed him across his various gigs, and his latest one is his most ambitious yet: He performed an hour of stand-up for Premature, a comedy special produced by Supergravity Pictures and distributed through Vimeo On Demand. With Premature set to arrive, we chatted with Morgan about his voyage from SourceFed to stand-up. Here’s what he had to say about his journey:
Tubefilter: How did this thing happen?
Elliott Morgan: It came to be maybe a year ago. I’ve been doing stand-up for about 3 years. I started doing stand-up after I felt myself getting comfortable at SourceFed. I always loved stand-up and I tried to do it. I didn’t tell anyone. I was going to open mics and trying...

It’s been an exciting week for Vimeo. The online video platform, which has recently showed an increasing appetite for original content, released the comedy special Bianca Del Rio’s Rolodex of Hate on December 2nd. A day later, it announced the launch of adaptive bitrates on its streaming videos, with the option to go as high as 4K resolution.
Rolodex of Hate comes from Del Rio, a drag queen who rose to fame after winning the sixth season of the reality TV show RuPaul’s Drag Race. Over the course of her hour-long special, which costs $7.99 to rent and $12.99 to own, she dishes out “her own brand of insult comedy,” according to a press release from Vimeo. While the online platform has served as a home for other comedy specials (including an upcoming one from Elliott Morgan), Rolodex of Hate is one of three original projects it plans to...

Elliott Morgan, who has recently been the man of a thousand hosting gigs, is getting ready to release his own stand-up comedy spectacular. Morgan, who’s showed up everywhere from SourceFed to Mental Floss to Mashable to Buzzr over the past year and a half, has made his special Premature available for preorder through Vimeo On Demand.
Premature, which was first announced back in August, was filmed at Los Angeles’ El Cid bar. It contains some of Morgan’s recent material and a professional polish. "For one whole hour, I told jokes I've been working on for the past few years, and dare I say, I changed the life of every single audience member there," said Morgan in a press release. "But seriously, this was an amazing experience and I'm excited to be bringing my comedy into a different medium than people are used to seeing."

Buzzr’s game show content will no longer be restricted to YouTube. During the week of September 7, 2015, the digital television network will air several failed game show pilots for a programming block dubbed “Lost & Found.”
Owned by FremantleMedia North America, the Buzzr brand was originally launched as a YouTube channel in 2014, produced through Fremantle’s Tiny Riot! digital studios. That channel released online versions of classic game shows like Family Feud, Celebrity Name Game, and Password. Popular YouTube stars, like Steve Zaragoza and Elliott Morgan (who just launched a new show with SourceFed) served as hosts for various iterations of Buzzr’s owned game shows.
Fremantle then launched the Buzzr TV digital multicast TV network in June 2015 (and it currently serves 23 or so U.S. television markets). For this network’s 60-day “Lost & Found” programming, Buzzr will show pilots from game show formats which never made it past the first episode,...

SourceFed has released a new web series, full of uncertainty and satire. On August 22, 2015, the digital news and nerd-based network founded by Philip DeFranco premiered The Study, starring host and ex-SourceFed member extraordinaire, Elliott Morgan.
The Study will be a weekly, satirical news show which Morgan wrote in an email will have “tight writing, irreverent humor, and a lot of dumb vape pen smoke.” In all twelve episodes, Morgan will play a wealthy, neurotic character who acts like he knows everything, but then ends up making a good point about the topic at hand. Essentially, The Study will be 90% satire and 10% truth without clarifying to the audience which is which.
“The goal is to kind of challenge the viewers to deduce where the line between satire and reality is drawn,” Morgan said. The long-time digital host, who’s also worked on Buzzr’s Beat the Clock and several Mashable series,...

As it looks to bring online video stars into the film industry, Supergravity Pictures is moving into the world of comedy. Its newest project is a stand-up special that will feature the comedic stylings of former SourceFed host Elliott Morgan.
The special, which is currently untitled, will begin production shortly. Supergravity, which has also worked with YouTube stars like Kian Lawley and Kevin Wu on film projects, will handle financing, production, and distribution. As a press release puts it, Morgan “will tell the jokes.”
Supergravity was co-founded in 2014 by Max Benator and Marc Hustvedt. Hustvedt (who, full disclosure, is a co-founder of Tubefilter) has experience with comedy specials, having produced Maria Bamford’s Special special special! back in 2012. “Elliott has always been one of the funniest and smartest people on the Internet,” said Hustvedt in the release. “We're excited to partner with Elliott to make his first comedy special unique,...

Collective Digital Studio has a new series that will appeal to YouTube's foodie crowd. The multi-channel network debuted the food game show series Win it for the Bar on the newly-launched Beer ‘N Stuff channel on June 29, 2015.
In Win it for the Bar, random bar and pub customers must correctly answer a set of food-inspired questions for a chance to win the entire establishment a round of free eats. The show host poses as the bartender, and then asks one bar patron, who unknowingly sat down in the hot seat, the culinary trivia questions. If the patron answers all questions correctly, everyone wins food; if a question is missed, the patron must buy someone a beer.

Buzzr just got a whole lot more goofy and awkward. The YouTube channel, owned by FremantleMedia North America and run by Fremantle’s digital studio Tiny Riot, just launched its newest game show web series called Beat the Clock, hosted by Mashable’s Elliott Morgan.
In the premiere episode of Beat the Clock, Morgan sets up two teams of two YouTube stars each with humiliating but comical challenges they must complete before the timer runs out. Team Wisecrack, consisting of that titular channel’s Greg Edwards and Mark Schroeder, competes against team Trisha Hershberger, consisting of Hershberger and YouTube cover artist Bianca Gisselle. To start things off, Edwards and Hershberger have to try knocking over bowling pins with a dangling pantyhose filled with two tennis balls attached to their waists (yes, this looks about like what you’d expect it to).

Elliott Morgan played host for the evening’s brief event, introducing Lawley and co-star Mykayla Sohn before the pair introduced the worldwide premiere of The Chosen trailer and previewed an exclusive scene for the live Playslist attendees. The fourth entry in Philip Defranco's mini-empire of YouTube channels will feature creative people making creative videos out of the most creative ideas they can think up. It's called ForHumanPeoples, it's based on a retail website Defranco launched in 2011, and we can expect it to feature all of his cool YouTube friends. ForHumanPeoples will have a similar mission to its sister site. It will feature content "approved by Philip Defranco", but instead of t-shirts and posters, that content will manifest in video form. The key way through which Defranco and his team will cull these videos is through collaborations. Many talented creators will show up on ForHumanPeoples, though these partnerships won't be limited to a small group of online video personalities. As SourceFed's Elliott Morgan explains in the channel trailer, "another huge part of this whole idea of collaboration is you , the audience." Get your suggestions ready, Defranco Nation. The...
