Despite being off the air for half a decade, AMC’s classic period drama Mad Men has found itself in the middle of quite a busy week.
On July 1, Lionsgate, the production company behind Mad Men, cut deals with Amazon and AMC (the show’s original network) for streaming and re-run rights to the series. All 92 episodes of the show will be available to stream on Amazon Prime’s IMDb TV channel on July 15. Amazon Prime also received international rights to the show and will make it available to stream around the world soon. Meanwhile, AMC’s portion of the deal will begin in the fall and will mean that the network will be able to re-air episodes and also host them online for streaming video on demand purposes.
Additionally Starzplay will host the series in Europe, Latin America and Japan beginning Oct. 1.

“Mad Men” ended its longtime streaming run on Netflix last month, but the wait to stream the Emmy-winning drama series isn’t going to last much longer. Distribution rights to all seven seasons of “Mad Men” have returned to AMC Networks, which has struck a deal to allow the Jon Hamm-led series to stream on Amazon’s free, ad-supported IMDb TV service.
“Mad Men” will be streaming for free with ads on IMDb TV starting July 15. The streamer platform is owned by Amazon and therefore is integrated into Amazon’s Prime Video and Fire TV offerings. AMC Networks will begin streaming “Mad Men” later this year in the fall, which means reruns of “Mad Men” can air on AMC and episodes can be uploaded to the network’s streaming services such as AMC Plus and Sundance Now.

Lionsgate has signed a new licensing deal for “Mad Men,” that will see the 1960s-era drama about ad agency executives head to Amazon’s free streaming service, IMDb TV.
The multi-Emmy drama will be available exclusively on the service beginning July 15 — it will launch on Amazon Prime internationally beginning Friday. In October, AMC will regain rights to air the series on both TV and streaming; “Mad Men” last aired the series during its seven-season run from 2007-2015. StarzPlay will also stream the series in its European and Latin American markets beginning in October as well. It will remain on IMDb TV as well.
“Mad Men” had been previously been available on Netflix but left the service last month.

In a move that even the great Don Draper might not have seen coming, the new streaming home for “Mad Men” will be Amazon’s IMDb TV.
All seven seasons, 92 episodes of the iconic drama will be available to stream for free on the platform starting July 15. Amazon has also acquired the international rights to the series from producer Lionsgate Television, and will begin streaming it on Amazon Prime Video around the world later this week, according to sources.
The rights have been packaged in what sources describe as a “complex, bumper deal” which sees AMC, the network which originally aired the show between 2007 and 2015, win the linear rights, and Starzplay (Lionsgate’s streamer) take a portion of the streaming pie for its European and Latin American footprint.
In other “Mad Men” news, Variety has learned from sources that the season 3 episode “My Old Kentucky Home,” in which Roger Sterling...

Whether it is TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour or upfronts, Fox employees always whoop the loudest for their leaders. That trend continued Monday afternoon when new broadcast boss Charlie Collier pretty much called for the claps.

TV’s erstwhile Roger Sterling is eyeing a full-time return to the small screen: Mad Men vet John Slattery is set to star in Fox’s sci-fi drama pilot neXT, our sister site Deadline reports.
Written by Manny Coto (24, Dexter), neXT centers on a brilliant but paranoid former tech CEO (Slattery) who joins a Homeland Cybersecurity agent and her team to stop the world’s first artificial intelligence crisis: the emergence of a rogue AI with the ability to continuously improve itself. According to the official description, the potential series serves as a “layered examination of how technology is invading...

“Mad Men” star John Slattery has been cast in the lead role for the upcoming Fox drama pilot “neXT,” Variety has learned.
The show is described as a fact-based thriller grounded in the latest A.I. research. It features a brilliant but paranoid former tech CEO who joins a Homeland Cybersecurity Agent and her team to stop the world’s first artificial intelligence crisis: the emergence of a rogue AI with the ability to continuously improve itself.
Slattery will play Paul Leblanc, the extremely intelligent teach company chief CEO, who teams up with Fernanda Andrade’s Homeland Cybersecurity Agent, Shea. People think he Leblanc may be a sociopath, but he’s really just a narcissist with money instead of social graces.
The actor has received four Emmy nominations for best supporting actor in a drama series for his portrayal of Roger Sterling in “Mad Men.” He recently starred in another Matthew Weiner-created series,...

Exclusive: Mad Men alum John Slattery has been tapped as the lead of neXT, Fox’s AI thriller drama pilot from 20th Century Fox TV.
This marks the first broadcast pilot for Slattery since his seven-season run on AMC’s Mad Men as Roger Sterling, which earned him four Emmy nominations. It is his first broadcast series regular role in a decade and a half, since Greg Berlanti’s 2014 CW drama Jack & Bobby. I( hear new Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier, who has a relationship with Slattery from his long tenure as head of AMC, was involved in bringing the actor to the the broadcast network.

Creator Matthew Weiner goes back to the well in a new episode of Amazon's The Romanoffs.
TV
This review of The Romanoffs contains spoilers.
The Romanoffs Episode 4
Is Matthew Weiner obsessed with affairs? Between his former show, Mad Men, and his current offering, Amazon’s frustratingly indulgent The Romanoffs, extramarital affairs have featured as a prominent narrative crutch. The plot point has become so repeated for a Weiner piece that I’m starting to wonder if the writer/director is capable of creating tension that extends further than “will X character find out that Y character slept with Z character?”
We’re back doing the same song and dance, returning to midtown Manhattan for the Romanoffs’ fourth installment, “Expectations,” but this time with some added paternity ambiguity to attempt to make things fresh. Weiner seemingly cannot help but thumb through his old playbook looking for new ways to traverse...

A review of “Expectation,” this week’s The Romanoffs, coming up just as soon as I’m literally patronizing…
“I literally walked by my own life and saw someone else take it.” -Daniel
In certain ways, “Expectation,” which centers on a woman’s overdue reckoning with a long-ago affair, is a notable improvement on the three previous tales. It’s only about an hour long, thus (mostly) avoiding the narrative bloat that dragged down the others. It is singularly focused on Amanda Peet’s terrific performance as Julia, where some...

Martin Sorrell in 1985 invested in a small British manufacturer of wire shopping baskets, and began a process that would result in the construction of the giant marketing-services holding company Wpp. Now that the company has cut ties with its founder, many wonder if the era of empire-building on Madison Avenue has come to an end.
The advertising industry is largely carved up among six or seven major holding companies: Wpp; Interpublic Group and Omnicom Group of the U.S.; Publicis Groupe and Havas of France; and Dentsu and Hakuhodo in Japan. The companies were created by buying sprees set in motion in the 1980s and 1990s that put giant ad agencies and a litany of smaller, entrepreneur-driven shops under the holding companies’ aegis. In a different timeline, ad agencies like Bbdo, Deutsch or Young & Rubicam might still operate under their own power, rather than being lumped into a hodgepodge...

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: What is the best use of a song on a TV show?**
**Non-theme songs preferred. “Best” is loosely defined: Most memorable? Most moving? Cleverest? Most unexpected? etc.
Daniel Fienberg (@TheFienPrint), The Hollywood Reporter
I’m glad that last week I gave a short, simple and singular answer, because there’s absolutely no way to do this one without moving into a laundry list, starting with “The Oc” and “Hide & Seek,” a sequence so seminal in its moment that it earned an “SNL” parody. Then you have to pick something from “The Americans,” a show that has mastered the art of building scenes around iconic ’80s hits,...

“Rellik” is “Killer” spelled backwards, which is one thing the trailer for the new Cinemax serial killer miniseries doesn’t actually put in reverse.
Without getting too much into logistics, this first glimpse shows that through the eyes of Gabriel (Richard Dormer), a British detective, the hunt for a murderer works backwards from the crime at hand to try to catch the person responsible. Gabriel himself is the victim of an attack, as the acid burns on his face show.
In the meantime, amidst all the dispatch teams and shotgun blast victims moving like an inverted Gif, Gabriel’s partner Elaine (Jodi Balfour) tries to sort through her own co-worker’s motivations for bringing these particular suspects to justice.
Time will tell if, as another Dormer character once put it, “The enemy always wins.”
In addition to Dormer and Balfour, “Rellik” also marks the very welcome TV return for Paterson Joseph,...
