Brussels-based sales company Best Friend Forever has acquired iternational sales for Emilie Brisavoine’s French documentary feature Keeping Mum (Maman Déchire ) ahead of the film’s premiere in the Proxima Competition at the Karlovy Vary International FIlm Festival (June 30-July 8).
The film is Brisavoine’s second feature following 2015 Cannes Acid title Oh La La Pauline!! Brisavoine is also an actress who starred in Justine Triet’s debut feature Age Of Panic. The film is produced by Nicolas Anthomé of Paris-based Bathysphere Productions.

Karlovy Vary International Film Festival has unveiled the official selection for its 57th edition, including new features by Pascal Plante, Stephan Komandarev and Tinatin Kajrishvili.

The Karlovy Vary Intl. Film Festival, Eastern and Central Europe’s leading cinema event, has unveiled its lineup, which includes new works by Pascal Plante, Stephan Komandarev, Tinatin Kajrishvili and Babak Jalali in the Crystal Globes Competition. They will vie against films by up-and-comers Ernst De Geer, Itsaso Arana and Cyril Aris. The section has nine world and two international premieres. Oscar-nominated actor Patricia Clarkson is one of the jury members.
The Proxima Competition, which made its debut at last year’s Kviff, presents what the festival defines as “bold works,” directed by young filmmakers and renowned auteurs alike. The section comprises of 10 world and two international premieres. The festival says “playfulness, courage and freshness can be found” in the new films by Swiss auteur Thomas Imbach, Poland’s Olga Chajdas, Cyprus-born Kyros Papavassiliou, French filmmaker Émilie Brisavoine and Romanian documentarist Alexandru Solomon, among others.

French actress Emilie Brisavoine (The Battle of Solferino) turns the camera on her own family, and her younger half-sister in particular, in the often raucous documentary Pauline (Pauline s’arrache). Part of the independent Acid sidebar in Cannes, this rather quixotic nonfiction concoction paints a rough-brushstrokes idea of what family, love and relationships might mean for millennials, though it seems unlikely that many members of the Y generation will see this at once colorful and coarse arthouse feature in any legal manner. France’s Association for the Diffusion of Independent Cinema (Acid) has unveiled the line-up for its 22nd Cannes showcase, running May 14-23.
The initiative aimed at giving greater visibility to up and coming, indie filmmakers will screen nine works – five of them first features and six of them without a distributor.
They include Us filmmaker Patrick Wang’s The Grief of Others, which premiered at SXSW earlier this year.
An adaptation of Leah Hager Cohen’s novel about a family who come to terms with the recent loss of a baby through the arrival of a pregnant, teenager stepdaughter in their care, it is Wang’s second film after the much-praised In the Family.
