As the clock ticks down to the 2024 Paris Olympics, U.S. rock climbing star Brooke Raboutou is taking a measured approach to her preparations, focusing on the present while eyeing a potential medal.
Raboutou, 23, who made history as part of the first U.S. Olympic climbing team in Tokyo 2020, is cautious about setting specific expectations for Paris. “I try not to have expectations. That’s goal number one,” she said in a recent interview. “Right now, I’m just trying to be present in everything I do and focus on what’s in front of me.”
The Boulder, Colorado native comes from a family of accomplished climbers. Her parents were professional rock climbers, and Raboutou began scaling walls at the tender age of two. This early start laid the foundation for a career that has seen her become one of the sport’s most recognizable faces.

Noah Lyles might be one of the nation’s fastest athletes, but there’s one thing he was falling behind on: managing his social-media profile.
The Olympic runner knows how important it is for fans to see clips of him in action, particularly with the Paris Games about a year or so away. But securing rights to video footage and putting it up in an intelligent way across different digital venues can be difficult, he says. “That can be very stressful, and take away from the ability to perform.”
NBCUniversal wants to offer athletes some assistance. The media company is launching a new production effort called Fortius that aims to help Olympic athletes burnish their brands in the months leading up to the next Games. The company has many reasons to do so. NBCU and its parent, Comcast have invested heavily in U.S. rights to the Olympics broadcasts, having...

Netflix’s Formula 1: Drive To Survive director Nick Hardie is behind a documentary feature following elite Olympic climbers from the US, UK, Slovenia and Japan, which is being backed by Adidas.
The Wall – Climb for Gold will chart Brooke Raboutou, Shauna Coxsey, Janja Garnbret and Miho Nonaka’s journey to this year’s Tokyo event for the first ever Olympic climbing competition. That journey included a gruelling season of competition and training that saw all their original plans go up in smoke as the Covid-19 pandemic forced the Olympics to be postponed.
The film is being produced by UK-based Argonon-backed unscripted indie Windfall Films and will be the first release on an ongoing slate for LA-based distributor Premiere Digital. It is being made with the support of Adidas.
Hardie is directing and the film is being exec produced by Windfall’s Dan Kendall, with For Sama composer Nainita Desai doing the score.

Ford Motor Co. and the Walt Disney Co. have made a precedent-setting deal for a “roadblock” across all of Disney’s broadcast, cable, digital and streaming channels in prime time to unveil the new Bronco.
On July 13, starting at 8Pm Et, Ford will introduce the new Bronco lineup across Disney platforms. Three custom, 3-minute films will air on ABC, ESPN and National Geographic, in each network’s first commercial break. All three pieces will be made available on demand on Hulu the next day.
Synergy is certainly nothing new for Disney, and the releases of last year’s Star Wars installment and Frozen II saw a high degree of co-ordination among Disney division. But this is the first time the “road block,” an invention used for decades by marketers, is being mobilized for a product reveal on Disney channels.

At a time when automakers have cut back on ad spending, Ford Motor Co. will rev its marketing engines for a unique commercial alliance with Walt Disney’s video properties.
The large U.S. advertiser intends to unveil its new line of Broncos with short films slated to be broadcast in the first commercial break of the 8 p.m. hour on Monday, July 13 on Disney’s ABC broadcast network and its ESPN and National Geographic cable outlets. The films will subsequently be made available for viewing on Hulu, the company’s ad-supported streaming service, on July 14.
Ad money from large auto companies has been harder to come by in recent weeks. Amid the coronavirus pandemic, automakers are among the marketers paring back their spending. The number of 30-second TV ads from car companies was off by as much as 56% during the weeks of May 4 and May 11, according to Kantar, a tracker of ad spending.

Kyra Condie always climbed: up trees, on top of the refrigerator, in the rafters of her parents’ Twin Cities home. She got hooked on the sport at a birthday party in a gym when she was 11. At 13, her career nearly ended before it began, when she had to have 10 vertebrae fused with metal rods to correct severe scoliosis. The surgery marked a turning point. After, all Condie wanted to do was climb — and be the best. “As soon as I had the idea of climbing being taken away from me,...
