They hear him before they see him, but they know who he is, and they’re terrified. He is whistling “The Farmer in the Dell,” and by the time he swaggers around the corner of the West Baltimore block, a shotgun visibly dangling beneath his trademark grey duster, Omar Little has sent an entire drug crew scurrying. They sprint down a nearby alley, right into the trap the larger-than-life stickup artist has laid for them, and when he gets a look at a gaudy necklace hanging from the leader’s neck,...

The Westboro Baptist Church has announced plans to picket the funerals of the children slain in the horrible school shooting in Connecticut. They believe the shootings are God's judgment on the nation, and put out a horrible video stating why (YouTube pulled it as hate/harm speech, but you can watch it here). Hacker group Anonymous has taken out the Westboro website and published all the personal details of the church members, and claim that they will take further action to stop the certified hate group.

Senator Diane Feinstein has announced plans to introduce a ban on assault weapons the first day that the new Congress is back in session, modeled on the previous assault weapon ban that expired in 2004.

Donnie Andrews, a former Baltimore drug world hitman whose life partly provided the inspiration for the character of Omar Little on HBO's beloved crime epic The Wire, has died at 58 from heart complications, the Baltimore Sun reports. Andrews was surrounded by violence for much of his life, growing up in an abusive household and even bearing witness to a brutal murder at a young age -- all over an alleged fifteen cents. Donnie Andrews, the former Baltimore stick-up man who inspired the Omar Little character on "The Wire," died Thursday in New York City after suffering a heart attack, "The Baltimore Sun" reports. He was 58 years old.
Andrews spent his youth robbing drug dealers on the West Side of Baltimore, and served 18 years in prison on a murder charge before he was paroled in 2005. While in prison, he was introduced to a recovering heroin addict named Fran Boyd, who was the subject of the David Simon book "The Corner." That non-fiction tale of drug culture on the streets of Baltimore was adapted into an HBO miniseries of the same name that grew into "The Wire."
In an interview with "Vice" magazine, Andrews described how he came to be a character in "The Wire." "They made Omar exactly the way I was. David [Simon] wrote ‘The West Side Story’ [the initial Baltimore Sun article about Donnie] after my conviction in ’86 and they basically had everything down-pat,...
