AMC has canceled “Lucky Hank” after one season, Variety has confirmed.
Based on Richard Russo’s “Straight Man” novel, the eight-episode dramedy follows William Henry “Hank” Devereaux Jr. (Bob Odenkirk), an unlikely chairman in a badly underfunded college in the Pennsylvania rust belt. Just as Hank’s career and home life begins to unravel, his wife Lily (Mirielle Enos) also decides to take a look at some of her past choices that led to her current reality. The series is told in first person from Hank’s point of view.
“We’re proud of ‘Lucky Hank’ and thankful for the work of everyone who brought this unique, playful and deeply human show to viewers, from the talented creative team to our partners at Sony and, of course, Bob, Mireille and the entire cast and crew,” said AMC in a statement. “Unfortunately, we are not able to proceed with a second season,...

This may be the season that CSI: Vegas finally stands on its own two feet.
In its first two seasons, this hybrid has faced a difficult challenge. It's not a revival of the popular series, which ran for 15 seasons on CBS. It isn't a reboot, with new characters repopulating an old concept.
Instead, in its first two seasons, CSI: Vegas has featured a couple of legacy characters to draw in viewers of the original series.
In CSI: Vegas Season 1, power couple Gil Grissom (William Peterson) and Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox) returned to clear the lab's reputation and former lab rat David Hodges (Wallace Langham) from a well-crafted frame.
Meanwhile, seemingly in the background, the lab's new criminologists solved the day-to-day cases.
What Were the Highlights of CSI: Vegas Season 2?
The second season struck a better balance between new and old. It almost had to.
The return of Catherine Willows (Marg Helgenberger) was well handled.

Hank is going to Hank.
If you didn't learn that from the series premiere of Lucky Hank, you'll know it after Lucky Hank Season 1 Episode 2, premiering Sunday on AMC and AMC+.
TV Fanatic scored an exclusive clip from the new episode, and it features Bob Odenkirk delivering another masterclass in acting.
He was excellent on Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, but he's playing a very different role in Lucky Hank, showcasing his impressive acting range to perfection.
In the clip, Hank is given the opportunity to speak with Booker Prize winner George Saunders.
While anyone would be ecstatic about speaking with such a prestigious figure, Hank has other ideas.
It doesn't help matters that Hank learns just how much the college is paying for the privilege of having George at the campus.
It's a fun scene that showcases why the show has been such a resounding success with critics.

Bob Odenkirk stars in Lucky Hank as the midlife crisis-bound English Professor Hank Devereaux.
In an exclusive interview with uInterview at South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas, Sara Amini explained what her character, Meg, is like.
“She’s sort of Hank’s protege,” she began. “She’s a part-time professor and then she also works part-time at a bar. What she wants more than anything is to have tenure, which is what these other seasoned professors have, but Hank doesn’t want her to get stuck in Railton like he did, so he’s kind of against it and that’s kind of where their tension lies. But Meg is super bright, really good at teaching, a little self-destructive in her personal life, a little reckless but a really complicated, amazing character to play.”
Amini also revealed an awkward moment on set with costar Odenkirk.

Television is a relatively new indulgence for South by Southwest. What started as a music conference and market for the exchange of pop cultural ideas in 1986 quickly grew into a full-blown film festival by 1994. It wasn’t until 2014, however, that TV fully got its due with the addition of “Episodic” programming to the SXSW Film Festival.
Now, nearly 10 years after television first arrived to the Austin, Texas get-together, the People’s Medium is well and truly having its moment at SXSW 2023. No fewer than 20 TV shows will have their premieres at SXSW this time around, running the gamut from tentpole streaming sci-fi to little-known pilots in search of a forever home
With that in mind, here is everything that SXSW attendees and TV fans in general can look forward to from SXSW 2023’s Episodic output.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for CSI: Vegas Season 2 Episode 16, “We All Fall Down.”] As the promos teased, the silver ink case (introduced at the end of Season 1) is over on CSI: Vegas … for now, at least. The door is left open for the show to pick it up again in the future — it’s already been renewed for Season 3, after all — but for now, the CSIs tracked down and stopped Ron’s attempt to fatally poison an entire psychiatric hospital. And while he did poison Sonya (Sara Amini) via a hidden pocket in the latest victim’s body, she will recover. CSI: Vegas showrunner Jason Tracey and the episode’s co-writer Craig O’Neill discuss ending this arc and if it’s truly over. Talk about crafting the entire mystery and building to this ending. When you introduced the silver ink case last season, how much did you know then? Jason Tracey: Craig and I knew...

Bob Odenkirk is going through a midlife crisis in the AMC series, “Lucky Hank”.
Adapted from the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, Straight Man, by Richard Russo, the “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul” alum plays Hank Devereaux Jr., head of the English department at the underfunded Railton College, whose life begins to fall apart. Hank’s unhappiness is rooted in unresolved issues with his father, a mediocre and entitled student body and the fact that his department is more divided than ever. ‘The Killing”s Mireille Enos co-stars as Lily Devereaux, Hank’s wife and vice principal of a local high school, who starts to question the path she’s on and the choices she’s made amid his downward spiral.
The newly released trailer reveals the extent of Hank’s discontentment as he publicly declares to a class of students that they’re swimming in mediocrity and because they’re...

Being English department head doesn’t seem to have any special perks on the surface, but in the first official trailer for the AMC series Lucky Hank, Bob Odenkirk proves that it serves as great source material for maximum melodrama.

Bob Odenkirk is the face of angry middle-aged white guy mediocrity in the trailer for “Lucky Hank,” a dark comedy coming to AMC and AMC+ on Sunday, March 19. If it’s going to be anyone, it should be him.
In “Lucky Hank” – formerly known as “Straight Man” – Odenkirk stars as William Henry “Hank” Devereaux, Jr., the chair of the English department at Railton College, an underfunded, underachieving college in small-town Pennsylvania. Hank is an unhappy man who resents his father, his students, and his co-workers, which he manages by checking out from his life. But one day, he’s pushed to his breaking point and snaps at his students during class, which sets his life into a mid-life crisis tailspin. Meanwhile, Hank’s wife Lily (Mireille Enos), the even-keeled vice principal of the local high school, has had enough of Hank’s nonsense and is questioning her own path in life.

Slippin’ Jimmy slipped his way back onto AMC. Less than a year after closing out the saga of Saul Goodman on “Breaking Bad” prequel “Better Call Saul,” Bob Odenkirk is back on the channel for new series “Lucky Hank,” and the first full-length trailer for the college-set show dropped this Wednesday.
Alongside the trailer, AMC Networks also revealed that the series’ debut episode will also air on BBC America, IFC, and SundanceTV, in addition to AMC and its streamer AMC+.
Based on the 1997 novel “Straight Man” by Richard Russo, best known for the Pulitzer Prize-winning book “Empire Falls,” “Lucky Hank” has a similar premise to 2021’s Netflix series “The Chair,” which starred Sandra Oh as the stressed-out chair of a college’s English department. Odenkirk takes on the role of William Henry Devereaux Jr., the English department chair at Railton College, a poorly funded university in the Pennsylvania rust belt.

Bob Odenkirk is returning to AMC with Lucky Hank, which now has its first full-length trailer for his new drama series.
The Better Call Saul Emmy-nominee’s next show is described as “a midlife crisis tale set at Railton College, told in the first person by William Henry ‘Hank’ Devereaux, Jr. (Odenkirk), the unlikely chairman of the English department in a badly underfunded college in a working-class American town. Hank’s discontent is rooted in unresolved issues with his father, a mediocre and entitled student body, and in the fact that his department is more savagely divided than the Balkans.”
Mireille Enos (Hanna) stars as Lily Devereaux, the “emotionally grounded, unflappable wife of Hank and the vice principal of the local high school in rural Pennsylvania where they live. As Hank’s life starts to unravel, Lily begins to question the path she’s on and the choices she’s made.

Lilah Fitzgerald has signed on to join AMC’s “Lucky Hank” in a guest role.
Formerly titled “Straight Man,” the eight-episode dramedy follows William Henry “Hank” Devereaux Jr. Based on the novel by Richard Russo, the series is told in first person from Hank’s point of view.

Other previously announced cast members include Alvina August, Sara Amini, Diedrich Bader, Suzanne Cryer, Olivia Scott Welch, Arthur Keng and Cedric Yarbrough.

Catherine Willows is back, and CSI: Vegas is the better for it.
CSI: Vegas Season 2 Episode 1 already marked another time of transition for this revival of the once-hit series.
William Peterson and Jorja Fox departed after one season, so Gil and Sara had to disappear.
Fortunately, despite her role on All Rise, Marg Helgenberger was amenable to a return to Las Vegas.
Let's face it. The revival can't yet stand on its own two feet. While the new team may appeal to fresh viewers, fans of the old series want to see the OGs they know and love.
Catherine was the favorite of many viewers. Gil was the aloof scientist; Catherine was the people person. She was the more accessible member of management.
There was a believable setup for Catherine's return.
The lab was short-handed after Gil and Sara's departures and Allie's absence for lengthy training in Los Angeles. Catherine...

National treasure Bob Odenkirk isn't saying goodbye to AMC after the completion of "Better Call Saul," as his next project, "Straight Man," is well into production. Many assumed Odenkirk would take a step back from the acting world after he endured a heart attack, but you can't keep a Goodman down. He thankfully recovered after the massive scare and now ol' Bob is back, bearded, and better than ever.
The new dramedy series is based on the Richard Russo novel of the same name, with Odenkirk starring as William Henry Devereaux Jr., aka "Hank," the unlikely interim chairman of the English department at a fictional Pennsylvania university while he experiences a mid-life crisis. "Straight Man" is currently filming and looking at a 2023 premiere with an 8-episode first season, which means we're still a ways away from a trailer, but here's everything we know so far about the new series.

Where in the world are Sara Sidle and Gil Grissom when Season 2 of CSI: Vegas opens up? TVLine’s exclusive sneak peek at the new season has the answer to that question.
Though both Jorja Fox and William Petersen reprised their original CSI roles in Season 1, the latter had only signed on for that initial 10-episode run (but stayed on as an executive producer). Fox subsequently announced that she would not continue on either, explaining, “I personally just can’t split Sara and Grissom up again…. Wherever they go, they belong together.”

Marg Helgenberger returns to the CSI franchise for the first time in seven years later this month.
Helgenberger returns as Catherine Willows for CSI: Vegas Season 2 in a one-year deal.
The star opened up about her big return to the universe Friday at CBS' TCA panel.
“I wanted to make sure there was a reason Catherine would come back to the job,” the actress said of returning to reporters.
“It’s a tough gig. Why would Catherine, at this age, come back? That was important to me."
"I had several conversations with [showrunner] Jason Tracey about that. I really want to get it right and we did," Helgenberger adds.
The star's deal keeps her back in the universe for one year, and she said she felt the love with the new cast instantly.
“I feel the respect toward me, I’m so grateful. It’s been a hell of a lot of fun working with everybody,...

Exclusive: American Housewife alum Diedrich Bader, Sara Amini (Future Man), Cedric Yarbrough (Carol’s Second Act) and Suzanne Cryer (Silicon Valley) are set as series regulars opposite Bob Odenkirk, Mireille Enos and Olivia Scott Welch in Straight Man, AMC’s series adaptation of Richard Russo’s novel, from former The Killing writer-producer Aaron Zelman and The Office alum Paul Lieberstein.
In the dramedy, from TriStar TV, William Henry Devereaux Jr. (Odenkirk) is the unlikely and reluctant chairman of the English department in an underfunded college in the Pennsylvania rust belt. His discontent is rooted in unresolved issues with his father, a mediocre and entitled student body, and in the fact that his department is more savagely divided than the Balkans.
Bader will play Tony Conigula, a philosophy professor at Railton and Hank’s closest friend. After the failure of his first marriage, Tony has fully committed to the life of a Bachelor.
