AMC has canceled “Lucky Hank” after one season, Variety has confirmed.

Based on Richard Russo’s “Straight Man” novel, the eight-episode dramedy follows William Henry “Hank” Devereaux Jr. (Bob Odenkirk), an unlikely chairman in a badly underfunded college in the Pennsylvania rust belt. Just as Hank’s career and home life begins to unravel, his wife Lily (Mirielle Enos) also decides to take a look at some of her past choices that led to her current reality. The series is told in first person from Hank’s point of view.

This may be the season that CSI: Vegas finally stands on its own two feet.

In its first two seasons, this hybrid has faced a difficult challenge. It's not a revival of the popular series, which ran for 15 seasons on CBS. It isn't a reboot, with new characters repopulating an old concept.

Instead, in its first two seasons, CSI: Vegas has featured a couple of legacy characters to draw in viewers of the original series.

In CSI: Vegas Season 1, power couple Gil Grissom (William Peterson) and Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox) returned to clear the lab's reputation and former lab rat David Hodges (Wallace Langham) from a well-crafted frame.

Meanwhile, seemingly in the background, the lab's new criminologists solved the day-to-day cases.

What Were the Highlights of CSI: Vegas Season 2?

The second season struck a better balance between new and old. It almost had to.

The return of Catherine Willows (Marg Helgenberger) was well handled.

It doesn't help matters that Hank learns just how much the college is paying for the privilege of having George at the campus.

In an exclusive interview with uInterview at South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas, Sara Amini explained what her character, Meg, is like.

“She’s sort of Hank’s protege,” she began. “She’s a part-time professor and then she also works part-time at a bar. What she wants more than anything is to have tenure, which is what these other seasoned professors have, but Hank doesn’t want her to get stuck in Railton like he did, so he’s kind of against it and that’s kind of where their tension lies. But Meg is super bright, really good at teaching, a little self-destructive in her personal life, a little reckless but a really complicated, amazing character to play.”

Better Call Saul came to a close last year after six excellent seasons, but Bob Odenkirk has already moved on to his next AMC series. Based on Richard Russo’s 1997 novel Straight Man, the series initially shared that name, but it was revealed today that there has been a title change. Bob Odenkirk’s new AMC series is now known as Lucky Hank.

Alvina August has been cast in a recurring role in Bob Odenkirk’s upcoming AMC dramedy series “Straight Man,” Variety has learned.

The series is based on the novel of the same name by Richard Russo. It was ordered to series at AMC in April. In addition to Odenkirk, previously announced cast members include Sara Amini, Diedrich Bader, Suzanne Cryer, Mireille Enos, Olivia Scott Welch, Arthur Keng, and Cedric Yarbrough.

Per the official logline, the show follows “William Henry Devereaux Jr. (Odenkirk), the unlikely chairman of the English department at a college in the Pennsylvania Rust Belt.”

August will appear as June Washington-Chen, described as “an English professor who is temperate and careful. She is as savvy and individually minded as her husband, English professor Teddy Washington-Chen (Keng).”

Catherine Willows is back, and CSI: Vegas is the better for it.

CSI: Vegas Season 2 Episode 1 already marked another time of transition for this revival of the once-hit series.

William Peterson and Jorja Fox departed after one season, so Gil and Sara had to disappear.

Fortunately, despite her role on All Rise, Marg Helgenberger was amenable to a return to Las Vegas.

Let's face it. The revival can't yet stand on its own two feet. While the new team may appeal to fresh viewers, fans of the old series want to see the OGs they know and love.

Catherine was the favorite of many viewers. Gil was the aloof scientist; Catherine was the people person. She was the more accessible member of management.

There was a believable setup for Catherine's return.

The lab was short-handed after Gil and Sara's departures and Allie's absence for lengthy training in Los Angeles. Catherine...

National treasure Bob Odenkirk isn't saying goodbye to AMC after the completion of "Better Call Saul," as his next project, "Straight Man," is well into production. Many assumed Odenkirk would take a step back from the acting world after he endured a heart attack, but you can't keep a Goodman down. He thankfully recovered after the massive scare and now ol' Bob is back, bearded, and better than ever. 

The new dramedy series is based on the Richard Russo novel of the same name, with Odenkirk starring as William Henry Devereaux Jr., aka "Hank," the unlikely interim chairman of the English department at a fictional Pennsylvania university while he experiences a mid-life crisis. Though both Jorja Fox and William Petersen reprised their original CSI roles in Season 1, the latter had only signed on for that initial 10-episode run (but stayed on as an executive producer). Fox subsequently announced that she would not continue on either, explaining, “I personally just can’t split Sara and Grissom up again…. Wherever they go, they belong together.”

Marg Helgenberger returns to the CSI franchise for the first time in seven years later this month.

Helgenberger returns as Catherine Willows for CSI: Vegas Season 2 in a one-year deal.

The star opened up about her big return to the universe Friday at CBS' TCA panel.

“I wanted to make sure there was a reason Catherine would come back to the job,” the actress said of returning to reporters.

“It’s a tough gig. Why would Catherine, at this age, come back? That was important to me."

"I had several conversations with [showrunner] Jason Tracey about that. I really want to get it right and we did," Helgenberger adds.

The star's deal keeps her back in the universe for one year, and she said she felt the love with the new cast instantly.

In the dramedy, from TriStar TV, William Henry Devereaux Jr. (Odenkirk) is the unlikely and reluctant chairman of the English department in an underfunded college in the Pennsylvania rust belt. His discontent is rooted in unresolved issues with his father, a mediocre and entitled student body, and in the fact that his department is more savagely divided than the Balkans.
