Italian sales firm Minerva Pictures has finalised deals on several genre titles at the recent European Film Market (EFM).
The sales are led by terrorist thriller The Shift, which has been picked up for France (Koba Films), Germany (The Lighthouse) and Japan (New Select).
The Italy-Belgium co-produced is directed by Alessandro Tonda and premiered at Rome Film Fest. Led by Suburra star Adamo Dionisi and Cesar award-winning actress Clotilde Hesme, it centres on two paramedics who unwittingly load a suicide bomber into their ambulance in the wake of a terrorist attack.

At the Award Ceremony of the 24th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF) awards were handed to the winners of the four competition programmes of the festival and PÖFF’s sub-festivals Youth and Children’s Film Festival Just Film and International Short Film and Animation Film Festival PÖFF Shorts.
The jury of Official Selection – Competition headed by Mark Adams selected director Ivaylo Hristov’s drama “Fear“ as their favourite, handing the film the Grand Prix of the festival. Blending drama with deadpan comedy, the film’s story is set on the Bulgarian border, on a new route for African migrants arriving from Turkey with hopes to reach Germany. The protagonist, the former school teacher, comes across an African man who will bring a dramatic turn to her life.
The Best Director award goes to Turkish director Nisan Dağ for “When I’m Done Dying“, a vibrant portrayal of an upcoming hiphop artist struggling with drug addiction.

The new project by the Tuscan director-screenwriter will be a modern-day fairy tale based on Fabrizio Silei’s children’s book Il Bambino di Vetro. GlassBoy, a European co-production between Italy, Switzerland and Austria, is the new project by Tuscan director-screenwriter Samuele Rossi, loosely based on the novel Il Bambino di Vetro by Fabrizio Silei, which won the Andersen Award in 2012, Italy’s highest accolade for works of fiction aimed at children. The film, which will begin shooting this coming September, will rework the imagery of the great cult children’s films of the 1980s and 1990s, but in a modern context. It will be produced by Solaria Film, owned by Emanuele Nespeca (a member of Ace Producers since 2010 and a Producer on the Move in 2016), Zurich-based Peacock Film and Viennese outfit WildArt Film, in conjunction with Rai Cinema, with contributions from the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities...
